Ragnarok Online Open Beta *Reg. Open*

For you MMORPG n00bs out there, this is a *deep breath* massivemultiplayeronlineroleplayinggame *gasp!*. Unlike the previous 2 closed betas, this one won't cost you a penny. Gravity, the Korean makers of this game (on a side note, Koreans seem to know their online games better than anybody else!) has been tweaking and working on their game for what seems forever. The iRO (International Ragnarok Online) version was set to start open beta registration today (4/28/03, Monday, 11a PST), but was instead postponed for exactly 2 days until Wednesday the 30th (same time). Mind you, the servers won't be open yet, but knowing about the popularity of the game, I wanted to share this important info to you gamers out there who might be interested in getting in ASAP.

Wow, they have spent a long time in beta. I thought it was out already! I was in the beta a long while ago... seemed to be open then, but maybe I had signed up.

i've been counting the time the registration is up. can't wait to play again!!

anyways, i would also recommend you signing up as soon as you can, although it won't matter because they will leave this as open beta and you should be able to register anytime.

btw, another good website to look around is pak0
and don't even bother with gamefaqs... that place is infested with snobs and beggars and flamers it's not that fun anymore...

I haven't been able to access the English site either.

stndn, did you happen to register through the Korean site?

Added pak0 as par request of stndn . Yeah I registered myself. The Loki and Chaos server go up in a few days I believe. No word yet on when the beta2 client will be released, but you can bet on slooooow downloads (/me hopes not). BTW, the eglish site works perfectly fine fo rme right now. But maybe you just hit a loop wher they were updating it, because it seems that it's changing while I browse LOL.

the english site works.
i am assuming the link does not work for some of us because it was getting hammered by people trying to register.
i had to go there several times until the site finally loaded..
similarly, when you confirm your account, you may have to wait for a while if the site is down.

note that the open beta is for english only. if you go to japanese or korean site, you can't play open beta.. it's pay to play for them now

another thing, Loki is the new server they are adding... if you're starting for the first time, i recommend you play at Loki (instead of Chaos, the other server), because you will start as noob like everybody else.. Chaos has been open for a while (during closed beta), with some item dupings happening earlier this year so the economy is screwed up... this makes things more expensive than they're supposed to be...

Just wanted to list a semi-update. I've been on a hardcore run downloading lots of files RO related. Ran into some interesting things. Will mention them here and will provide links when I have time. For starters, can't seem to find the beta2 client ANYWHERE. Will report back sine I finished downloading what appears to be the beta2 update (although it says thai version, the thing is in English). I just wanna get it ahead of time, is that too much to ask? I don't think so . Also got a hold of the intro, a music video, and some flash files.

A little of beat here, but anybody who owns a dreamcast knows about Phantasy Star Online. I found out that a trial version of a pc version was released sometime the middle of last year. The site is in Japanese but a direct link to the download file is right here.

I was getting the new client at 100k+ overnight via the bit torrent link found at ragnarokhq.com forums. I installed, but when I tried to run, the window got stuck at "patch_allow.txt 4/4". I searched for a solution, and it was to open the patch_allow.txt and change 'deny' to 'allow' and make it read only. But then I just get a disconnected from server message everytime I try log on.

edit: oh, it seems the servers aren't up yet .. that's the reason for being stuck at "patch_allow.txt 4/4".

Well, the fastest would be either BitTorrent or eDonkey (Kazaa if you're lazy). I'm still in the process of getting my copy. Taking so damn long, it's ticking me off. I don't know who I should kick! I want to get this by Friday so I can go back home and distribute it to all my friends .
