MS doesn't allow game makers to require HD installs, because they sell an arcade version.

Microsoft does allow games to require a harddisk, just like they allow games to require a special controller that not everyone has, like say a Kinect. Very few games have required HDs, just the few MMORPGs on the console as far as I know. Halo: Reach required a HD for one its game modes.

That was a question fellas. All this banter, no one can take 30 seconds to respond? What is the significance please?

It'll be like any other three disc Xbox 360 game you've played before. On the odd chance you've never played such a game, then you'll need to swap discs according to where you are in the single player compaign or if you're playing multiplayer.

id Software official recommends installing the game if you're using an Xbox 360. You'll have to wait for the reviews to find out what sort performance hit the game might suffer from if you don't have it installed.

Didnt expect to find this on my doorstop yesterday.

The bummer is the game is embargoed until next Tuesday (Oct 4th), so I can't say anything about the game.

I can say (teasingly so) that I played it for a few hours last night and we're going to have A LOT to talk about! :)

You're as bad as those news stories where people are not allowed to report exact things that happened in court so they say things like "the crowd awed several times today as dramatic evidence was shown" but they can't really tell us what any of that evidence was o_O

Hopefully the engine is good. id games aren't always the greatest but lots of good games are made with their engine. Some of the COD games and JK2 were based on Quake 3.

Seeing how the game installs are way faster on the xbox than they are on the playstation, I would bet the 22gb install of all three discs would be done before the 8 gb on the playstation. Hell, Resistance took almost 20 minutes to install and update on the playstation on day one.

You try too hard kid

PS3 > Xbox

deal with it

Ms was really short sighted by using DVDs.

The 360 would've cost like $800 if they launched with a BR or HD-DVD drive. You have to remember this thing is tech from 2005, not 2011 where you can get a BR drive at Newegg for $55.

I do think having no-hard drive models was really dumb, though.

They could have used HD-DVD, included Wi-Fi & HDMI and had consoles last more than months.
Then they would have launched in late 2006 instead of 2005 just like Sony. MS was desperate to get something out because they didn't want to keep paying Intel and NVidia for the license fees to build the first-gen XBoxes and they really wanted to be first to market. This obviously cost them (RRoD), but you can't say that the 360 hasn't been successful just because it's having some issues at the end of its lifespan.

I heard the 360 version gives you AIDS.

Seriously guys, put your pinky cocks back in your pajama bottoms. The game isn't even out yet.

Mildly successful for MS, but I don't own stock. As customers (I had three until I gave up) we should demand more than a shoddy product rushed out to meet an arbitrary deadline. I would have waited a year to get a 360 that worked, had HD-DVD, HDMI and Wi-Fi. Instead we got stuck with a $99 Wi-fi adapter and proprietary HD upgrades.

I'd guess half of the slim sales were existing 360 owners just trying to get a better console. Fool me once, shame on me...

They did that to make up for the fact that they were losing LOTS of money on each console. They can start to recover some of it when they sell a $10 hard drive for $100 and a $20 wireless card for $100. The only way around the bullcrap hard drive prices is to jack up the purchase price of the console, and that would definitely be bad for sales.
