What is 'better': the ATI RAGE FURY MAXX 64 MB or the 3DFX Voodoo 5 5500 (both AGP?)

I have both, don't know which to use!

What are the differences?

The Rage Fury Maxx won't even run WINXP. :p
No Windows 2000, NT4, or WinXP drivers. It's a Win9X only card. ATi was never able to get it to run properly under NT and canceled all NT driver support.

<< Uh-oh. No way to work that ATI in win2k huh? >>

Nope. Nothing outside of Win95, 98 or ME. ATi's AFR technology they used to create the dual chip Maxx card turned out to troublesome outise of Win9X.
There were a lot of upset cusomers after ATi admitted they couldnt make Win2k drivers for it, a number of people bought the card based on the promise that Win2k drivers would be developed eventually.

I would use the Voodoo 5 but why the hell did you get such crappy video cards in the first place.

My apologies.

I did not realize ATi had no NT drivers for the MAXX.

I just know my Voodooo didn't like XP much.

Lol well they have 2 chips and 32MB each true...but the chips are quite different. The VSA100 is quite significantly faster than the Rage128. The Rage128 does have better DVD playback though. 3dfx also combines the two chips in a better way (Scan Line Interleaving rather than Frame Interleaving).

And the VSA100 is a far more feature filled chip then the Rage 128 Pro used on the MAXX.

Either way you go, you're looking at driver problems... But at least the V5 HAS Win2k drivers...

Extremely good Win2k drivers. Your ponly likely to have probelms with the V5 under XP> 3dfx may be dead but their existing drivers are extremely reliable.

ATI RAGE FURY MAXX might work in W2k/XP as "usual" Rage128 Pro (at least it works like that with linux), but you lose about half of it's speed. Anyway, V5 is probably way better solution...

Athlonman, I did not ask for a critique of my purchase decisions. In fact, you really don't know where I got them from. Please just stick to answering the question or don't post on my thread at all. Thanks.

Oh yeah, and thanks to everybody else that responded.
