Radomly loosing USB keyboard

Why does my keyboard just sometimes not work when I boot up. Here is my setup:

DFI NF4 Ultra-D
Venice 3000+ @ 2.75ghz
Corsair Ram
Old Compaq USB keyboard
Windows XP Home

Could it be because of the OC?

any help would be great. Thanks.

Any computer parts store should have them really, really cheap. I'd be very surprised if your keyboard didn't come with one as well. They're small and easy to lose, however.

Some keyboards may not work with the cheap usb-ps/2 adapters. The kb needs to be specially designed to support both and the fact that it didnt come with the adapter doesnt bode well. There are "smart" interfaces that will work but theyre more expensive.

Have you tried different usb ports? Is "legacy usb support" (or some varient of that) enabled in the bios?

My USB mouse used to do that on an old athlon 600 setup a few years back. You'd unplug it and plug it back in and it'd detect. Not had the problem happen since on different computers though so possibly motherboard specific.
