Howdy: I have a non-cell blocked AOR AR-2500 Scanner Radio.I believe the company was bought out by Trident.Anyways, It has computer control via rs-232 cable. I never got the cable, I didn't buy the software.I'd like to do so now.Any suggestions would be....greatly.......appreciated.

No Johnnyknoxville, you are mistaken.Let me enlighten you.I bought the scanner before the official cutoff date.

Now:I can still listen to ANALOG ONLYcell phone calls in the higher Mhz. Range (approximately 850-950Mhz).

Technically, I am allowed to posess any scanner made before whatever the cutoff date is.I think it was sometime in 1993.

Digital sources cannot be deciphered, you can pick 'em up, just sounds like noise.

The analog cell 'phones are being phased out for digital, they work better.

Lots of home-based phones work on a 900 Mhz. band, and some of them aren't scrambled or digitized, they are also analog.

Technically, I can own any scanner that picks up anything, as long as it was built before a certain time(93).

Also:I am not SUPPOSED to listen in on any telephone calls made from analog cell phones.Who is gonna know if I do?

Legal trouble can be had by divulging the contents of any conversation made by CELL PHONES to anyone.

It is perfectly legal to own scanners that will pick up cell phone conversations,I just can't tell anyone about the conversations.

Now Johnnyknoxville, you may follow me around these forums attempting to aggravate me with your ridiculous replies. You can flame me all you want, I just request that it's a Blue Flame.

Good luck,jk.You'll need it.I can't be worn down.

It may be time for a new receiver.
I did a search and found only dead links to DOS only software for the radio and if I'm not mistaken it takes a special RS-232 cable with a level converter built onto the DB25 shell.

If your in the market for a new radio you could do worse than an ICOM IC-PCR1000. It covers DC to daylight and is entirely PC controlled.

Linky

Click on the receivers tab and navigate to PCR-1000.

BTW, guitronics is right about the legality of older scanners. The older models which were able to receive cell phone or coeless phone signals were grandfathered in when the law changed. All of the new radios have cell phone reception disabled.

I think 1994 is when the finally locked out totally all the cell call reception. I think in 93 they started cutting out some of the 800Mhz range (like on my BC890XLT) but it could have a "mod" done to get that range back in.
