I've always wondered how SHOUTcast stations modify the music to have much more depth and treble. Are they simple EQ adjustments or is there a whole process to it?
Depends on the broadcasting software/hardware. We have dedicated hardware compressors using WMA professional and MP3. The MP3's sound much better than software like LAME, etc.
We stream 64kbps stereo shipwide from XM and other sources and it's believed to be CD quality. (cough)
Well, chances are I don't have the equipment needed to make the "reference" sound good, if you can even call MP3 rips a reference. I don't really mean compression, but the radio seems to reproduce oral tones better.
