My son's pretty hardcore into X-Mods cars, and there's a Shat Shack in the stripmall across the street. So he's there regularly.

For Xmas one of the things he got was a $50 gift card to Shat Shack and, being 14, he wanted to go use it NOW. heh So on the way from taking my 2yr old daughter to Holiday Storytime at the library today I stopped so he could go shopping.

He picked up about $65 worth of mods for his car (and a tool kit that I insisted he get instead of all my micro tools disappearing all the time...) and got in line.

He paid with the gift card and a $100 bill (another gift from another relative). I was taking care of my daughter near the door. I watched him pay and heard him say "hey!"

The clerk had accidentally only used the $100 bill instead of the gift card first. No biggie, stuff happens. That's not the problem. Apparently only the manager can fix it. Ok, cool...

However a line of 7 people had grown. The manager insisted on helping them first!!!!

I went up and asked why my son had to wait. His response? "They were first." Like he11 they were. We went round and round for a few minutes before I realized my son will likely go back to that store and I don't want to embarrass him. So rather than seriously go off on the piece of shat, I bit my tongue and walked away, watching to make sure my son got his money back. (he did)

So now I need to write a nastygram to Shat Shack corporate. Sigh. Like that will do anything.

Oh another corporate complainer.. You think they really care all they do is call the store and tell the Mgr to apologize. Find better things to do in life then bust a a underpaid manager.

i've gone to my local radio shack and tried to ask them if they had certain things and most of the time they are like, "a what? i don't know what that is"

Well, that's a given.

While we were there, I heard an employee say, "So THAT'S a spade connector!"

Oh, crap.

that's what you get for going to Scat Shack. Those 7 people in line were probably after those portable DVD players for negative $5 after rebate

Went to RadioShack yesterday. Three of the four items I purchased rang up $10 higher than the price on the shelf. The cashier caught the first one noting it was on sale and taking the $10 bucks off. When I pointed out that the other two items were marked lower on the shelf the cashier said "yeah, you're right" and took off the other $20 bucks. It was clear that she would have just as happily overcharged me $20.

that clerk was just BS'ing you, he could have easily done a return and rebuy on the spot without manager approval.
most likely he just wanted to ring up the other customers since they work on commission, and a return counts against their sales performance numbers.

you are lucky he didn't stuff cellphones down your throat.

1. You went in on Christmas eve, it's an extremely busy day, the company instructs them to take care of people in line before taking care of problems. Plus, they make comission, so taking care of problems = no pay, versus taking care of other customers = more pay. Sucks, but that's how it works.

2. It would've taken me literally 15 seconds to fix it, called void the old ticket, create the new ticket. But like I said, I would've lost sales had I done that, which means a lower paycheck, but I would've done it right the first time so it wouldn't have mattered.

3. Sending corporate an email will indeed get results, as long as you don't swear in it, have a nasty attitude in it, and you follow up on it. If you're polite but firm in it, they'll pass it down to the DM to deal with, and if you call the corporate number (1800-THESHACK) and ask to be transferred to the DM in charge of your area they will either transfer you or give you his number to call directly. Give it a week or so (busy time of year) then call and ask if they've dealt with your complaint yet. You'll get something out of it.

I really hate that store. Anytime I've ever tried to buy something there, I've received either sh1tty service or a sh1tty product. The absolute last straw was about three years ago when I went in to make a purchase. I waited at the cash desk for such a long time, and no sales associate in sight. Finally someone came out, and he said, "Oh. You have to find one of us to ring you in." I was livid! Everyone was in the back room, how could I have found anyone? Then he had the nerve to make a personal call while I was still waiting to have my purchase rung up. That's when I pointedly put the product down on the counter and walked out of the store. They don't want my business, that's OK with me.

I haven't been to Radio Shack since they demanded name, phone number and address before they'd sell me a 1-foot extension cord a few years ago (even though I paid cash). I understand they've since eliminated that policy but I can't bring myself to shop there anymore.

They eliminated it more than a few years ago. Now, when idiots try to return 1-foot extension cords without a receipt, they can gladly refuse the return because there's no way to track sales anymore.

 for the consumer!

I had a friend that managed a Radio Shack in a small market. He had no control of his inventory, so what didn't sell in the big market stores was shipped to him. Since he worked off commission, he didn't make much money and there were no prospects for him to there. Corporate management also held him responsible for the low sales and were constantly reprimanding him. He worked 80 hours per week, basically as a clerk because he had to cut expenses by always being shorthanded and taking up the slack himself. His pay was less than minimum wage because he was on salary and basically got no commissions. He had no career path there because his numbers were too small to get a better store. He says the best thing he ever did in his life was to walk out one day without notice.
