Radio Shack clearance laptops / YMMV / B&M

I went into Radio Shack to check out the $399 17" HP they had on sale this week to replace our recently deceased laptop. Didn't like it too much, but...

They had an Acer and Gateway both on clearance, I ended up getting the Acer for $399. Here's the link to it on Acer's site: das linky.

Decent specs, Win7 HP x64, P6100/HD graphics (2GHz, no HT, no TB, no VT-x), 3GB/320GB, HDMI/VGA, etc etc. In the Acer standard chassis, but red (oooooohhhhh). They had a Gateway, black with a different pattern featuring the i3-370M (2.4GHz, hyperthreading and VT-x), 4GB/500GB, otherwise the same I believe, for $449.

Obviously this will be B&M, YMMV blah blah but pretty good prices at the moment. Seem to be getting 4-4.5hr battery life out of this thing so far. They also only had the floor model at the first store, but called around and found a store with 3 new ones, I got mine there. These don't show on the website.

I think they also had a Toshiba and another HP on sale or clearance as well.
 
That 17" is actually a good one for the money. Lots of stuff for $400. Sure the hard drive is smallish and the Intel proc is a budget model. My GF got it and after cleaning it up. Its pretty darn good. People complained about the touch pad and keyboard. Pffft. They work well enough.

This has an HDMI out. A webcam. A card reader. Built in N capable wireless and Bluetooth. The screen is really good.

Pretty funny story. That lady that fell into the Berkshire Mall fountain while texting. (Youtube it). The Radio Shack we go to is 25 yards away from the fountain. There is no way she didn't see that thing.

Anyway. If you need a 17 " on the cheap. This is it. If you need a 15" with bigger HD and better Proc. Check out the clearance models. They had them there as well.
 
Yeah the HP sale ended yesterday I believe...or maybe today. Still surprised I bought a laptop at Radio Shack, but hey miracles happen 😛

One note on the Acer (and probably Gateway): only one speaker! Really, Acer? I would have paid 400.99 for the extra speaker *sigh*
