Radio on 6 disc changer fading out on my 04 Silverado....

Noticed the radio sounded a bit weird on the way home today, so I changed the balance on my system and sure enough, there was no sound coming out of the left side of my truck (well, it was a whisper). When I turn the deck off and back on, it sounds normal for around 15 seconds, then it fades off to nothing on the left side (front and back speakers).

I then tried a CD and it works fine all around. So, it's only the radio portion that doesn't work.

Any ideas?

PS: This is a 2004 Silverado with the 7 speaker bose setup. Yes, I realize there are much better sounding aftermarket systems out there and bose is shit. I have onstar and steering wheel controls, which won't work on an aftermarket deck without a $200 wiring harness.... plus I lose the changer. I can get a new GM 6 disc changer deck on ebay for $150.... more in my budget.

I agree with your diagnosis. There's nothing user-serviceable in the radio itself. No replaceable plug-in modules or anything like that.

Unless there is an electronics repair near you that can handle the job, I think your only recourse is the dealer. If you can remove the radio yourself, you can just drop it off and save yourself that cost.

The dealer is going to send it out for repair. The question being where? If you could find out, you could cut out the middleman. You may need to box it and ship it though.

In AK, I could see you being without tunes for a month easily if it has to be shipped. I waited 45 days here in the Detroit area and I dropped it off at the repair shop.
