How much or a performance hit would you take if you went from a 2x120mm rad with undervolted fans to a 1x120mm rad with a normal fan?

I don't have my loop set up yet, but there is no feasable/practical way for me to mount or install a 2x120mm rad. I was going to get the Swiftech MCP QP, but I'm undecided on a 1x120mm rad. It will be a standard loop pump>rad>cpu>nb>res

A LOT.

Try to fit the larger radiator. 120x1 isnt really worth going unless its a secondary or GPU only radiator

wont be enough to cool a C2D overclocked. In fact i dont think it would be enough to merit a migration to h2o even. He would have near temps with the ultra120 extreme. The PA would be slightly ahead.

But forget about cooling your GPU. U'll seriously overload that radiator with a CPU + GPU.

The PA160 might get you away with decient temps. Id suggest that instead. However, i think they will both lose to a MCR220.

So try to fit the MCR220. Thats my advice.

Your question is extremey vague. Without knowing what rads and what fans there is no answer. For example, 120mm fans can move anywhere from 20-200CFM. And certainly, an undervolted 200CFM fan would perform better than a 20CFM fan.

Your answers wil be here:

Bah, sorry I've been MIA for a few days, finishing up projects and what not so I will try to catch up.

Aigomorla: I couldn't agree with you more about coming over to water, I don't want a WC setup that will get me what lapping and a good HSF can do, I want to go beyond that. I was not planning on cooling my GPU, I don't OC it and my x1900 suits my needs, but I just enjoy over clocking, well, mainly because of the fact that I'm a nerd :).

Edit: Only planning on cooling NB and CPU.

Tyler: I was looking at that radiator but I wanted to know how much of a performance hit I would take, or even wondering if the upgrade is worth it.

Billb2: I realize my question was vague, but that was due to the nature of the fact that I was yet undecided on what fans and what radiator. The 120.2 rad that I wanted was the Swiftech MCR 220. As far as the line up for the 120.1 rads, I haven't invested anytime into researching them. More or less my questions was geared towards a general answer, but now that I have the time, I can give specific details for obviously a more detailed answer.

So lemme try this again.

My initial plan for my rad was the Swiftech MCR 220 with 120mm Yate Loon D12SL-12. What I would like to know is if there is any way to get close enough to the performance to that setup using a 120.1 rad and any relatively quiet fan(and by relative It needs to be a little more quiet than a leaf blower if that helps)?? The only things that I'm looking for is that I need to keep as much of the components internal as possible seeing as I will be transporting this computer to and from college. I don't want to run the risk of something bumping an externally mounted part causing damage or a leak.

My case is a Silverstone Temjin-04 as found on www.directron.com. I do not have enough room even if I were to hack it all to pieces, there just simply isn't enough room.

Thanks for the replies.

Edit2: Oh and if its any help, my goal is to get the highest 24/7 stable OC on my e6300, DFI P965-S and 2x1GB DDR2 Buff. Firestix. Right now I'm on stock volts 430fsb 1:1 ratio, 16hrs orthos stable. Idle temp is 40C (with smart guardian) and load bounces around from 55C to 70C (again with smart guardian). Granted you can't take onboard sensors seriously without a bucket of salt.

you prepared to do a little moding? i can make a PA120.3 fit on that sucker. Just hope you dont mind it being external.

Thats the thing, I could easily make the 120.2 or 120.3 fit externally, but I will be moving this computer around frequently, and would prefer it not to be mounted externally, in the case that something hits it or what not.

u willing to do some more modding and buy a 25 dollar tool?

This is assuming you have a drill. Then i can point you in the right direction so you can TOP mount mod it. All you need a hole saw to pop out 3 holes at top. And mount the CD-ROM on a lower bay.

last but not least, you can get a bigger case. If you want to exploit watercooling, the cheapest case that can easily fit everything you need with the smallest amount of moding, would be the CM Stacker T101.

You're talking about Tylerdustin's top mount right? I looked into that, and thought about doing it the way you described, but the rad I want is 11.4" (roughly). If it were pressed up against my PSU, about an inch would be hanging out of the cd drive bay, not to mention it barely meets the width requirement, so I would have almost zero room for attaching the tubing to the barbs.

As far as the stacker goes, I love the looks of the case and the room it has. I just don't know if i really want to fork out another 150$ for another case replacing the one I got last month. Imma have to think this one over for a while.

But as far as mounting the hardware in the Stacker, would it be best to mount the rad on the bottom , or put it up top and have it go into the drive bay? And where would be the best place to mount the pump. As far as the the resivoir goes, I will be using the one that fits into the 5.25" drive bay.

Thanks again for the Reply

holly crap $92 for a single 120mm radiator? that thing better cool like god for that price. no reason to pay $92 for this thing when something like this, http://www.dtekcustoms.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=19 for less then half the price. That dtek one is a heatercore from a car, and if it is good enough to keep your engine running, then it is more then enough for your pc.

If someone can prove me wrong by all means plz do.
~100 for a radiator of that size...thats crazy!
