Radiation leakage from CD-RW drive?

My burning program malfunctioned, froze. I tried to cancel the burn and exit the program, looked like that froze, or was taking too long so I just manually (by use of holding the on button) shut off the computer and then turned the comp again. The CDR wouldn't keep burning after I rebooted and when I opened the drive would it? and thereby leak radiation? (idk if that kind is even harmful)... and damage my cdrw drive?

THanks.

Its not a nuclear reactor. Its only radiation in the form of laser light and it would only harm your eyes if you looked directly into the laser when it was on. But if you notice your skin turning green when you get angry you might want to go see a doctor.

You can work on it, but you have to transfer your contra to someone else first so you can come back to live afterward...

I use a dentist's lead vest like they use when you get an x-ray when I'm burning my CD-R's just in case.

"get outta there its gonna blow" as they say in Counter-Strike....

Erm. No. There is absolutely no atmospheric radiation involved pahn. The only thing that a CDRW/DVDRW or any other optical drive works on is lasers. The only negative thing a laser can do is damage to the retina when you look directly at it.

Do not look at the laser light and you are fine. I repeat, there is no atmospheric radiation of any kind involved in CD writing.

It's unlikely that the radiation (infrared radiation) would even find its way out of the drive in a dangerous form. It would be too refracted and reflected to do any damage. The read/write head is a weak infrared laser.
Step outside - you'll get a lot more radiation from the sun than you'll get from your CD drive.

You did remember to attach the supplied lead shield to the drive cover, didn't you? I know, I know, it makes it tough to use the buttons on the cover, but if you wait 4 hours, (6 if you burn at 52X) it's safe to remove the lead shield:beer:

Jump in ice water until your heart stops beating. That will halt the mutation. BUT HURRY...YOU MUST DO IT AT ONCE!!

If you want to avoid radiation, turn your monitor off NOW! CRT monitors (including televisions) emit HUGE amounts of radiation.
