hey i recently bought a ATI Radeon 9700pro and is giving me alot of trouble. i formatted a few times and reinstalled everything but im still getting the same problems. after i install the ATI Catalyst drivers the computer randomly freezes up and automatically reboots. i exchanged the card 2 times and i still get the same results. ive tried this on Windows XP and WIN ME. on WIN ME, the computer would just freeze and not do anything, im a real ati fan and dont to switch to nvidia, any suggestions?

System Specs:
AMD Athlon XP 2000+
Soyo SY-K7V Dragon mobo
ATI Radeon 9700PRO
512MB PC2100 DDR Ram

P.S. i think its probally my mobo =)

make sure in XP that ATI smart is enabled in the control panel under services. fixed alot of problems for me and the PSU is usually a culprit when this is happening

and i ahve the dragon ultra mobo, and i dont knwo of any problems with soyo mobos and the card so it shouldnt be the Mobo

If that SOYO Dragon motherboard is the mobo with the KT266 chipset and not the KT266A chipset then that's your problem.
I had a dragon motherboard and it would freeze just like you said and an error would pop up saying it was a problem with the
video card. At the time I had the Radeon 8500 and boy was I mad. I read a lot of things that would fix it but the one that made it work
was switching the agp slot from 4x to 1x in the bios. It's gonna keep doing that as long as you have that piece of junk mobo so I
definitely recommend getting another one. One with the kt266A chipset or better.

It's probably the power supply and/or the motherboard. Make sure you have the latest BIOS and chipset drivers installed for your system and try a minimal boot.
