Hanners form Elite Bastards has become one of my favorite reviewers, I like his concise style and easy to understand technical discussion. He has taken a look at the X800 and the Cat 4.7 and 4.9 beta drivers Doom3 performance.

It looks like its most effective at higher resolutions using high levels of AF, so I'm not sure that 9800 will playable where it benefits the most..but I dunno. I just got Doom3 myself, I'll have to see how it works on my 9700pro.

Glad you guys liked it. :)

I'm not sure how those results would correlate onto a 9800 Pro - I imagine the performance benefits would show up in the same places, but of a lesser magnitude. You have to remember that the 9800s architecture is pretty well optimised for in drivers already (even in OpenGL) compared to that of the X800.

Thanks for the review, umm if u dont mind, would u be able to try this on the XT-PE, as i am getting one when they start shipping them properly, and i would like to get Doom 3 also, and i was wondering how this improvement will be, i suppose it would be improve even more, but i just wanna see the numbers first, and ur review was really comprehensive and precise. NICE REVIEW!!

I would if I had one (or even an X800 Pro of my own I could Mod to 16 pipelines), but sadly the X800 Pro is the best I have. I guess its one of those things I may well reinvestigate if the right boards come my way (Doom 3 will certainly be in my standard benchmarking suite from now on if nothing else), so we'll have to see what transpires.

The 6800GT I have is actually my own card, and the X800 Pro has been loaned to me.

I also have a variety of other cards, some bought myself and some loaned/given to me as part of my work for Beyond3D.

I should also be starting some reviews for another UK-based website shortly, so with any luck I'll have more boards coming my way then. ;)

I thought I had heard you purchased some of the cards yourself, (nice job btw). Hope it works out with the other site, I'm looking forward to more of your stuff.:)
