I live in Boston, MA and just got the Sunday paper and in the Best Buy circular on page 8 is a ad for made by ATI Radeon X800 Pro for $399. And if you get Half Life 2 at the same time its FREE. ONLY GOOD ONLINE!!! HL2 and Radeon X800 Combo deal!

Not sure if this is Smoking HOT? But seems scalding at least. Man what A Killaha deal to upgrade from my Power Color Radeon 9700 NON-pro. I would go for this, even thought I"d rather get a GeForce 6800GT. Normally I would of ordered first before I blab my mouth to everyone bout it. But lack of funds preclude this deal for me.

Well hope this works for someone!.

Good Luck guys.

Not too good of a deal... a 6800 GT will outperform this card by quite abit.

I bought the BFG 6800GT OC for $399 - %12 'Preferred Customer Coupon' = $350. Add the cost of
HalfLife 2 ($55) and you can get the combo this weekend for $405 if you received the coupons in
the mail.

If you wanted the X800 Pro this is a very good deal. Not smoking since I just got the x800 Pro at Outpost recently for $260, but that was a fluke. Normally the ATI x800 Pro sells for $400 and is OOS everywhere.

Forgot the 10% off coupon! Now it's smoking! Although since the deal is online-only I'm not sure you can use the coupon.

It's listed in the Sunday Best Buy Flyer, so I don't think it's online only.

as i understood it, doom was much better on the 6800GT, but since HL2 was optimized for ATI the X800Pro would out perform it. not sure about that though.

Im pretty sure it would just be CS source if at all. Dod source would only be on the steam offer.

You are correct. I has to do with the way the 3D render is written. That and the bribe money from either card manufacturer. So DooM3 and all future DooM3-engine based games are better on Nvidia cards. All Source-engine games will be better on ATI.

Eventually, the DooM3-engine will support Pixel Shader and Vertex Shader 3.0. This is something ATI cards don't support. That actually doesn't mean you'll have nicer graphics. Because everything in PS/VS 3.0 can be done in 2.0, just with more instructions. What that means, basically, by using less instructions, you can get even better performance.
