Hey you Video Gurus,

A question: How does the Radeon x600 PRO compare to similar cards such as the Geforce FX5900XT and the new Geforce 6600?

Thank you very much!

IIRC the 6600GT beats 9800XT in most cases, and it beats the X700Pro (or XT can't remember what the top model is) also most of the time.

man i feel like a super noob but my friend just asked me a question that i wasnt sure of, will using an x600pro in an Asus SLI Deluxe board work? (obviously not for SLI as that is not an SLI supported card - Nor brand 🙂 )

Eh, $110 sounds about right for a four-pipe card. A 6600GT will be (more than) twice as fast, and costs twice as much. So he didn't get a fantastic deal, and a gamer probably won't be very happy with a four-pipe card.

Actually, PriceGrabber shows 6600s for the same money, so a X600P is currently overpriced at $110. I think 6600s also have very overclockable cores, which can help with newer games like Doom 3, Half-Life 2, and Far Cry.

BTW, the PCIe version of the 5900 (the PCX 5900) just sucks. It's clocked much lower than the AGP version, which is already at a disadvantage to comparably priced ATi and GF6 cards in newer games.

Edit: I'm talking in US dollars. $110 AU/CAN is pretty good, I guess, tho I still think the X600 series is too slow for gamers.

I got an Asus Extreme x600XT HTVD for $99- full retail package! I am not a gamer really- and I wanted something on the cheap to finish off my Intel combo deal. Got the PCI-e board from Excaliberpc.com(out of California).

I mean the card isn't the greatest thing on earth for a gamer, but this will still play some stuff out there. I wanted an X700XT, but they were discontinued before seeing retail, and any 6600GT card here was $220 and up. For te money I couldn't go wrong(at least for what I wanted to do with it!!!)
