Radeon X1950XT Temperatures

Okay so I got the SapphireTech Radeon X1950XT 256MB from newegg. My temperatures have been 55c-89c from idle to full load. I have a two 90mm fans for intake one in the front, and one on the side of my case, and a 120mm blowing out the back.

I'm using stock cooling for it, and Sapphire told me the normal operating temperatures were 50-70c. Ever since upgrading I noticed my 12V on my PSU giving me a reading from 11.7-11.9, and my 5V around 4.9. I've thought about replacing it, and my case to see what happens then.

I'm not getting any artifacts, or tearing even at 89C. But I know it can't be good for the card to run that high. I've thought about getting new video card cooling too but don't want to void any kind of warranty through the manufacturer. I've taken the side panel off to see if my case is trapping heat somehow, and it did not affect my temps.
So is anyone else with this series of card getting these temperatures running stock cooling?

I have a X1900XTX and your temps are definitely normal.

I'm using the stock cooler and I idle around 53*C with the fan around 25%. I load around 75-80*C with the race car cooler @ 100%

BTW, Matt2, htf have you tolerated that cooler for so long?
I had an X1800 XT for a couple months, & i was so sick of the noise at auto (nevermind max) i got an Accelero X2 as soon as i got my X1900 XT...

Thanks for confirming that this is normal. I'm still thinking about buying the Accelero X2. How have your temps changed since going over to it? I'd gladly pay the 20 bucks for it on newegg to see it at least drop below 80c under load.

Not using the X1900XT anymore, but temps dropped a little with the Accelero X2.
I mainly bought it for silence though, which is mostly certainly was.

I think i was still getting around 90c with rthdribl stressing the card though IIRC.

It's better than stock, but not extremely so, at least not if you run the stock cooler @ "race car cooler" speeds

Yeah I play with headphones so it don't really bother me. I'm not getting artifacts or anything like that. I think I'm going to upgrade my case anyways. I got a socket 754 rig that can inherit this case. It seems that the card was designed not to let it go over 89C. The fan starts to get louder when the card hits 89c, and it cools it down, and then it goes back up again. They should put better stock cooling on these cards IMO. I guess anymore they know people are willing to spend the extra 30 bucks so they don't care.

Dude, trust me, I hate this thing with a passion. So much so that I now game with headphones on 100% of the time.

I actually have an Accelero X2 cooler that I've had since i got the card, but I found it to be pretty useless IMO. The design is terrible. If you're not going to exhaust the heat out of the case, at least exhaust it towards the side panel so it can be caught by the exhaust fans and not down towards the motherboard.

That being said, I get much better temps with the stock cooler because I have a pretty cramped case and airflow is not very good. So exhausting the heat out of the back of the case does wonders for lowering the temps of not only the GPU, but everything else in the case too.

Hey guys I found a program that is helping me out a lot. It lets me adjust the RPM on my fan. My fan was only running at 1700 rpm??? I cranked it on up to around 2500 when I play GW, and the temps stay low!! Hell it even tweaked out a bunch of my settings. This thing kicks CCC ass!!

It's called ATI Tray Tools its working awesome for me. Even displays my frame rates in the upper right when I play games. The fan control is in the overclocking options. Fan gets loud but I can handle it.

Yeah if you wanna mess with OCing/fan speeds, that or ATi Tool works well. (not the same as ATi Tray Tools)

50c idle 61c when I play GW for about 15 minutes, and alt tab out to see. I'm up around 3000rpm though vs 1400 rpm lol.

those are fine temps...the x1900xt can handle temps up to about 100C, then you'd better do something about your airflow/case
i have a vf900 on my x1900xt and i idle at 39-40C on a 70F day outside. i load at 55-60C.
