The core clock is shown at 500 MHz instead of 625 MHz, and the memory at 600MHz instead of 900 MHz. I couldn't find an explanation in the Catalyst help pages, so can someone please explain why this is so. Thanks!

I may be wrong, but I believe the card is downclocked while not in use to save power. I know my X1900XT showed lower clocks while not playing games, but it certainly doesn't underperform.

The others are correct. You're seeing the 2D clocks in Windows that the card uses to save power. When you load up a 3D program, the card will ramp up to the requested clocks.

Ok thanks fellows. My previous cards were all Nvidiums, so I'm more used to seeing separate 2D and 3D mode clocks.

And I've just confirmed that the clocks are ramped up when a 3D app is running by alt-tabbing to the CCC. The clocks do go down to '2D mode' pretty quickly though, in a second or so, even though the app is still running in the background.

yup, those are 2d clock speeds.

what is everyone overclocking their cards too? I managed 675/990 on the standard cooling and voltages. that was a gain of over 300 points in 3dmark06

WHY IS THIS ISSUE STILL NOT STICKIED.

This is at least the 10000th person who has noticed it. For some reason its only rampantly posted or noticed with the X19xx series, even though this method has been employed for quite some time.
