I'm in the market for a graphics card for my new machine and am torn between the Radeon x1950XT and the Geforce 8800 GTS 320 meg.

The radeon can be had for $200 and the Geforce for $260.

The Geforce supports Direct X10 and has more memory but the Radeon X1950xt has gotten great reviews as well.

Which card would you buy right now?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

I'd go for the 8800GTS, which should outperform the X1950XT in most cases.

As you can see from these benchmarks the 8800GTS 320MB even outperforms the X1950XTX (which is faster than the X1950XT) in many cases.

What resolution do you play at? If 1650x1050 or lower then the 8800gts 320 will be the better buy.

Thank you for the quick replies!!

I have a separate but related question - EVGA has a superclocked and normal version of the 8800 gts (320 meg) - can I just get the normal 8800 and overclock it on my own so it matches or exceeds the superclocked version?

The normal version is a good $$ less than the superclocked version.

Thanks again!

If your lucky mabe but, as far as I have read they overclock well.

EVGA has the step up program too. Within 90 days you can trade in your 8800gts and use the price you paid for credit towards a a better card. Nvidia has new cards comming in April.
