I've recently built a new system and decided to go with the Sapphire X1900 XTX instead of the 7900 GTX. This is my first ATI card and I'm not sure which drivers I should use. I've had some issues with the official 6.6 Catalysts in some games, Guild Wars and WoW to be precise. in Guild Wars, there sometimes is an annoying yellow frame at the top and left of the screen, and in WoW, alt-tabbing completely messes up the graphics. Also, in Half-Life 2, the mouse cursor flickers in the main menu. So far I haven't had any problems in any of the other games I've tried.

To you X1900 XTX owners (seems there are quite a few on this board), which drivers do you currently have installed? Are you using the CCC or ATI Tray Tools, or both? I've heard the 6.6 Catalysts were buggy, so maybe I was just unlucky. Have you had problems similar to mine?

Thanks!

I just installed 6.7.
No problems so far, but I don't play WoW. No problems with half life2 or episode 1 either.
Try theses drivers, they're supposed to fix some bugs from 6.6.
I try not to use tweaked drivers since they are not supported.

Welcome to the Forums! I'm currently using the 6.6 with no issues. I've heard about issues w/ the 6.7's so I'm going to wait til the 6.8s before upgrading. I'm also using CCC(overdrive disabled) and ATI Tool

for some games 6.5 may be better while for others 6.6

also, your question should also semi-include 1900XT and 1900XTX OC or maybe even 1900 CF edition card owners.

Thanks again everyone. Guess I'll have to try some other driver versions.

I'm using the 6.7s without issues, but I don't play WoW, so any issues with that game mean nothing to me. :p

ditto.

Usually, if you alt-tab (or use the Windows key) more than once, you will get it back to normal though.

I'm using the 6.7's right now and ATI Tray Tools instead of the CCC.

I'm still running the Omega 3.8.231s' (Catalyst 6.3-based). I tried the Catalyst 6.5s' and the Omegas' based on them (3.8.252), but didn't like em' so I'm back on the Omega 3.8.231s'.

I tried to put in Ati Tray Tools along with the 6.7 and got an error saying something like the bios couldnt send the information or something like that. It was a weird error I have never seen. It installed but when I tried to run it I would get the error.

I'm Running my ATI X1900 XT on the new 6.7 but also had 6.6 and both seem fine. I've had a few lock ups while trying to use the 3D application settings with ATI tool.

My question is, have any of you got down close and listened to your card while it's running 3d applications?

My brand new card makes very strange noises, sounds like an old processor, a cackling kind of sound while playing games like WoW. Is this sound normal for these cards, or is this a defect or problem?

I talked to ATI and I ended up sending my card in for a replacement, but the brand new replacement card does the same thing.

I heard odd sounds at first too, supposedly they might have been the transistors getting warmed up or something. Either way it's stopped now

Whathcha got for a PSU, I have heard that the fan makes an odd sound if the PSU is not up to par.

No it's not the PSU, nor the fan making the noise. It sounds like the components inside the card are making the noise.

Seeing how noone can confirm if this is normal, makes be believe that your cards dont do this aswell.

I have a Themaltake TR2 500w True PSU.
I have had this problem with fresh 6.5, 6.6, and 6.7 drivers from ATI
My motherboard drivers are up to date, as is everything else in my system.

If you want full specs:
Asus A8N-SLI Premium
2gig PC3200 OCZ 2.5-3-3-7
WD 250gig 7200 rpm IDE
AMD 64 3500+ Venice core
ATI Radeon X1900 XT
Thermaltake 500W TR2
NZXT LEXA case(2 120mm intake fans with screens, 1 120mm out take, 1 80mm outtake)

All components are running stock speeds, cool and quiet.
So wtf gives?

Any ideas?
