Good points. I'm wondering if big navi will all be 1/16 fp64.
Hopefully we get some news next week. I was literally looking at the best buy XFX card, hit refresh and the price went up $100.

Yeah I would not expect any navi card to have faster than 1/16 FP64.

If you need FP64 perf the VII is the best game in town by a long shot. We only get cool fast FP64 cards dropped on consumer once in every few years. Looks like AMD's next FP64 focused die will be Arcturus which is still based on GCN, should end up being the Instinct MI100. Not for consumer.

Sorry for the necro but I had to ask:

Why is Radeon VII selling for so much?

This card is over two years old now! People are selling them for over $2k. I could sell my Radeon VII and get more than enough money for a 6900XT and waterblock. Why???

(and yes, I am seriously tempted to do just that)

Do you really have to ask?

It's a good miner card, I know. And they're rare. But it's not THAT good.

edit: a 6900XT only does ~60 MH/s? Wow. Leave it to Vega20 to shine years after its release. Shame there wasn't a CDNA consumer card eh wot?

Anyway though, an RTX 3080 can out-mine a Radeon VII easily, and doesn't cost $2k. A new 3080 can be had for around $1500.

oh, but it is that good.

Basically:
RTX 3090: 105 MH/s @ 300 watts (some tweaking required )
RTX 3080: 97 MH/s @ 250 watts ( but needs to be tweaked to the hilt and a bit lucky to get this )
Radeon 7: 100 MH/s @ 250 watts ( some tweaking, but they pretty much all will do it )

Nah a 3080 uses less power and they can break 100 MH/s. Plus my Radeon VII requires 270W to hit 90 MH/s.

Don't get me wrong, if you have a Radeon VII, now might be the time to sell before the mining market craters.

Actually a 3090 does around 118MH/s I think, but yes some tweaking is required and YMMV. Radeon VII is often considered a unicorn though, they are kind of a special, rare card.

That it is! It certainly wasn't easy to get them when they were new. Kind of makes me want to hold on to mine. Kind of.

Still, being able to hawk one and use the proceeds to get a 6900XT, waterblock, and new PSU is tempting.

What 6900XT would you be able to get with that sale? I figured they would also be going for over $1500. If it is one of the really nice ones, I would probably go for that deal. It would be a big upgrade.

There's some on eBay for around $1500. I'd be getting a reference card to block it with a Watercool Heatkiller V. And yeah some of them are even new.

Anyway:

Reference 6900XT: ~$1500
Waterblock: ~$200
PSU: $200-$300, assuming I wanted to replace my aging EVGA 750W P2 with a good unit in the 850-1000W range to OC that sonofagun.

Tax would tack on another ~$200 but still. It's REALLY tempting to try to get ~$2k for the ol Radeon VII, especially since I paid less than $800 for it two years ago.

Problem with ebay is you might not get any warranty. I am not sure though, it may depend on the brand. Something to look into.

Good miner card. It's also one of the best prosumer cards for those who want to run professional workloads at home and on the cheap.
