I have a Radeon VE 32m video card. I do a fair bit of photo editing and find the two monitor capability quite useful. However, I am interested to know if there are any tweaks that may improve it for gaming. Any information would be gratefully appreciated.

I can't offer you any tweak suggestions for this card. However, I can say that I had this card but I'm going to return it. I was using it in dual monitor mode and I experienced quite a few issues with it.

Some of the issues:

- Periodically lost my second monitor and had to turn the monitor off, then back on.

- Couldn't play a DVD when I was doing other tasks because when I'd move my mouse, the DVD movie would pause and hiccup quite a bit.

- The DVI to Analog connector port displayed a degraded quality compared to my primary port. However, I was able to resolve this issue because my LCD monitors have a phase control adjustment. I guess others without this phase adjustment on their monitors would have to hope that their video quality output on the 2nd monitor was good enough if they didn't have any monitor adjustments to get around this issue.

What I did do is purchase a GeForce MX 32 MB card. So far, this has been a great card. TwinView works better than HydraVision (in my opinion). TwinView is a bit more intuitive which makes it easier to setup and navigate. Some of the older reviews seemed to indicate that TwinView required you to reboot your PC if you had to apply any configuration changes. Through drivers, this issue appears to be fixed, and unlike the Radeon VE, both of my monitors work endlessly.

The Radeon VE drivers on the CD were the only ones that worked for me under Windows 2000. The newer drivers from the Web site and the Beta drivers from the Web site both messed up HydraVision pretty bad. The only way that I could get HyrdaVision to work again was to re-install the old drivers off the CD.

For 2D quality, the MX appears as good as the Radeon to me. Plus, the MX is slightly faster in 3D than the Radeon VE. Also, I'm very pleased that I can watch a DVD movie on one screen while working on the other.

Good luck with your Radeon VE. I hope that it fits the bill for you.
