Well I picked up two of these cards from a buddy the other day, and they are garbage. My PC is what some of you would call Dyno-Era but when I had me GF1 DDR I could always get a solid 70 fps in COunter-Strike and Quake III, the VE can't even pump out a steady 25 fps in either game, and has a terrible time playing DVDs as well.

My system:
Celeron 333 Mhz
320 Meg Ram
Sound Blaster 128
3COM NIC
Cable

One thing this card does very well is 2d, Windows looks great. I have been looking for a card that looks better than my Voodoo3 in Windows and this is it, too bad it sucks as everything else. Duel display was cool for about an hour or so, then I got tired of looking at two screens.

This isn't a 3d card, its a 2d card meant for dual display. You have to turn smoothvision off for ATI cards to get a decent frame rate in CS too.

You should know what you are doing before getting something.

If you purchased a Radeon VE in the hopes of running 3D programs you made a misinformed purchase. This is not a 3D gaming card as it's too slow to even run GLQuake at acceptable speeds.

The Radeon VE is a fantastic card for it's intended market.
Excellent 2D visual quality, excellent DVD playback, and a solid MultiMonitor implementation at a very cheap price.

It was never really intended as a gamers solution though, and it's performance which tends to be roughly between that of the GF2 MX200 and MX400 clearly displays that.

Something is definitely wrong if your having issues playing back DVD's on the card as ATi has long had the best DVD hardware playback support in the industry. And at least on a reasonably decent system it's adequate for basic gaming, for those that arent terribly demanding.

Personally I couldnt say enough good things about the VE for it's intended market.... but as a gamers solution on a low end system it's most definitely an extremely poor option.

Ditto to what everyone else said, and I'll add that the VE does TV-out very nicely too.

did you not read the other post before you replied.

Of course I did.

Did you read his post where is said the card was a POS because of poor 3D performance?

I didn't pay money for the cards so I am not out any cash. The 2D was great like I said, it did not play DVDs well, even on my older machine my GF DDR could play DVDs skip free. This card performs like a Rage Pro, it shouldn't carry the Radeon name at all.

You need to read up on vgas before you put them in your computer. A GF1 DDR to a Radeon VE is a huge downgrade. The VE is really only meant for corporate/dirt poor use.
