Radeon SE?

What's the story on the SE? I wonder if it is going to be offered or if it was just a test to see how far they could push the current Radeon design and whether it would be a viable product.

There was a comment made by one of the PR people from ATi. I really can't remember where I saw it, but they said they would release it. I saw the quote a month or so ago. Things might have changed since then. It's a slightly different design, as far as the layout of the PCB goes, so maybe they did more than just bump up the clock speed, because Radeon is not a good overclocker. I would imagine that they will do more than just bump it up to 230/230, to get good performance.

I haven't heard any new news about it, except for new pictures of the board at digi life. ATI been extremely quiet lately, I wonder what kind of performance increase we should expect from the SE.

I havent heard anything beyond the usual unconfirmed rumors that have been floating around for awhile.
If it is indeed released and clocked at 230/230 then I would imagine it will either be in extremely small quantities or based on a new board revision to allow for high clockspeeds as the current Radeon core is not a good overclocker at all, and seldom do even the best of them hit much beyond 200MHz.

Info on the SE is very sparse. Here is what one of the Rage3D mods posted:

<< Guys, it is a real Radeon SE.
I have touched, seen, and used one before....

They use a new Radeon core, thats why they have that different # and stuff. Its not fake and its NOT an R200.

This card will have to be more than just a Rad 64 with a little higher clock speed for it to be a sucess. I dont see why ATI would bother if it were. It would be nice to see something around GF2U speed, and hopefully cheaper!

Who knows. Its all speculation (even if the card does exist) until they actually show up. The photos show a huge ass GPU HS and ramsinks. The "new core" is interesting.
