Radeon SDR vs Radeon VE

Finally bought a game that makes me want to upgrade my video card, but no way im spending a lot of money on it

(correct me if im wrong here but) reading suggests that a radeon SDR is a better bet than a geforce mx, and i can get them for around the same price, so thats not an issue.

however the VE is scheduled for feb release in the states (im in uk, dunno how much diff it makes), and im wqondering what id miss if i buy an sdr now

MadMerc - you can get a DDR 32meg Radeon for only 135 pounds from Micro Direct. I'd say spending that extra ~20-30 quid is worth it for the DDR model, which will easily outperform both an MX and an SDR Radeon. I just got one from there to upgrade my Voodoo 3 and it's a great card. Lovely image quality, good speed and fantastic DVD playback.

You'd be better off with the SDR than the VE but spring for the extra for the DDR.

Yeah, the DDR should be around the same as the MX, don't try and save a little bit of money on the SDR because the DDR is much better, and the VE isn't really geared for gaming at all. There's suppose to be another version, the LE (or something) that is the equivalent to the Geforce MX, but don't remember when that's coming out.

i found a good price on an aiw, and as i want a tv tuner i may go with that - im looking into seperarte tuner solutions first tho

Well Merc, I have a Hauppage Win TV thing which I picked up from PC World for under 50 quid, and that gets along fine with my 32meg DDR Radeon (should you be worried about compatability issues).
