My parents machine is a p3 1.1ghz, 512megs, and a radeon sdr 32meg pci card. it also has built in video.

How much better is the Radeon PCI than the Intel?

What is the video benchmarking test to use?

edit:
How about the Radeon sdr 32meg pci vs Matrox G400 16meg agp?

(Just trying to put the best of my spare parts in my parents machine.)

Well... that's a pretty old RADEON card.

But, that said, I have yet to see a discrete solution that wasn't faster than IEG. You could try running 3DMark2001 or 3DMark2001 on both the onboard and the PCI card; that would give you a decent idea of their relative speed.

... and the 1st generation IEG is any younger? It's running on borrowed RAM of a slow old standard, PC133 at best, and only if you're extremely lucky does it have the "optional" dedicated Z-buffer RAM. And it's only a DX7 card just like the Radeon.

I anticipate the Radeon to benchmark about ten times faster. IF the board runs it at all - i81x boards are notorious for not handling an add-on VGA very well.

yup, the radeon works w/the intel mobo.

hm..i also have a matrox g400 16meg agp. i'm pretty sure the radeon will beat this as well.

I would just use Matrox g400. Both are old cards so I would go for better 2d quality.
