How will the video quality be if I record a DVD movie on a DV camcorder through Radeon's S-Video out? The camcorder has S-Video in.

illegal ;)

But seriously DV cameras have very good quality and resolution so I imagine that would be a efficent way to "back up" your DVDs. The legality and lack of it is an issue you should be aware of.

The limiting factor would be the S-Video output and input. I do not know the details of these factors however.

Depends how well the camcorder handles a Macrovision copy-protected analog signal. It may work fine or it may not. There are ways to defeat Macrovision but not for the technically faint of heart.

Workin' is right.

Your "record" function will be disabled, since digital camcorders automatically detect the copy-protection signal. Unless you have a crack for Macrovision on your ATI card, you'll be left stranded.

Also, from a very different point of view, copying DVD's on DV is economically non-viable. The tapes will cost a lot, you can only record a limited quantity of data (even in LP mode), and the wear on your machine (camcorders are delicate!) is greater than the costs incurred from buying the damn source DVD (unless it's OOP, in which case you might have a good reason)
