I am just updating on my purchase of a used Radeon R9 290 from ebay.

I got it for $211 shipped reference cooler. The cooler is really loud so I decided to replace it with Kraken G10 and a Corsair H50. Default cooler was loud and hot. I would run the fan at 65% and still the GPU would get hot 85c. VRMs were good though about 72 and 69 or so for the VRM I and 2. I did some modifications for the Kraken G10. I had a 80mm to 120mm fan converter so I slapped that on the kraken and used a cooler master 120 mm(When I took the pictures I had used a Gigabyte cooler but replaced it with the coolermaster because it had a faster RPM). I used the 92 mm fan to blow air towards the VRM2. also bought some copper ram sinks and the gelid VRM pack for the 290.

Cost $
Card 211
Ram sinks 9
VRM sinks 11
H50 29
120 mm fan 1

Total 261

Now my temps are 52-56c depending on the game
VRM1 59-62c depending on the game
VRM 2 59-60 depending on the game

Idle temps are great too.
GPU 37
VRM1 33
VRM2 50

Now the bad. When I had the stock cooler I was able to oc the ram easily to 1350 now I can only do 1300 MHz. I have no idea why. VRM temps are a lot better now but my memory oc is worst :( I did not pushed the core with the stock cooler since it was hot as it is. Also, my card unlocked to a R290x so I am not complaining I am just puzzled as to why I cannot oc the memory anymore

Was your overclock worse before or after unlocking to 290x?

It was worst after I swapped the stock cooler. I had already unlocked the card ad just OC the memory since the stock cooler does a really bad job so I did not bother with it. Currently I am running at 1050 core and 1300 MHz ram. Before with the stock cooler and the card unlocked I was running at 1000 and 1350 MHz on the ram. I am not worried much since it is Elpidia ram known for being a bad to oc and really do not need to push the card much since it runs everything I throw at it. I am just curious why will it now oc less since the VRMs are running cooler and the GPU is much much cooler.
