Group,

I have put an ATI radeon 32mb PCI card into my old HP pavillion. I the stock 15 inch monitor that cam with the pc. I had to adjust the contrast and brightness on the monitor to the max as well as adjust the brightness in the advanced setting on the video card. Now everytime I boot the computer it looses the settings for the video card. I have to go into the advanced settings and just click on the color tab. Then the brightness setting is restored.

The brightness setting is also lost after running mechwarrior 4.

It also appears to be initialy correct durring the first part of the boot. But it goes dim durring the final stages of the boot.

Is there anything I can do? I have installed the latest drivers from ATI.

Does this sound familiar to anyone?

Thanks in advance.

It sounds like it's just the standard "cheap monitor-itis" problem. Some cheap monitors won't hold their settings (gamma settings, screen border) through changes in screen resolution, refresh rates, etc. It may also be that the monitor is starting to crap out on you.

If you're using the 7075 drivers, I'd suggest trying the most recent beta drivers (the 7153s), as they have a better Colour interface, with different sliders for Desktop brightness, overlay brightness, and Game gamma. If I remember correctly, the 7075s only had one slider for an overall seting.

Yes, I tried the new beta drivers. They loaded well, but the problem persists. I suspect the monitor as well, but the only setting that is lost is the one on the video card. The contrast and brightness on the monitor are always fine (set to max as before the boot)

Maybe I will haul my 19 inch Viewsonic up to try it out on that PC.

I will let you know how it goes. Thanks for responding.

Well my ViewSonic MB90 did the same thing. So it seems to be with the card. It just does not hold the brightness setting. Would this be a warantee issue? I just picked up the card at Staples a couple months ago.

Thanks.
