• RADEON PRO - 4 times faster than RADEON, 400mhz core, 0.15m, enhanced rendering architecture, will be available in the summer of 2001

Just noticed this on Anands front page under ATI's roadmap.

I was waiting for the NV20 this Christmas but hey, this looks like it maybe worth holding out for :D

What u reckon guys?

If that's true, that would be awesome. I would probaly just go ahead and pick up the NV20 though. Nvidia has proven themselves to be pretty good about being ahead of future products from other companies.

Waiting for new technology is a waste. If we all waited we'd still be using 486 computers. I'm lloking forward to the Radeon2 but I also doubt these dates. Realized the Radeon Maxx and 2 are only 1 month apart? I wonder what the prices will be?

Am i right in thinking that all these parts just ramped up radeon and not completely new chips?
Scaled down core size = faster part?
If this is what ATI are doing and theyre heading to .15 & .13 micron fab then maybe they're in with a chance of delivering the goods on time?

Kinda nice to see ATI giving nVidia a run for their money i hope.

I hope 3DFX can also keep up with these guys?
Be even more competition - my next vid card goin to be great for bang for my buck ;)

ATI better get them Win2K drivers up to the standard of nVidia's in speed or i wont be giving them my money.

Kinda glad nVidia are taking Win2K drivers seriously. The other manufacturers must be loosing a lot of sales over this to nVidia.

They look like new chips - at least as far as nVidia's definition would go, i.e. not a "spring refresh." Also, the move to a smaller process can be quite problematic.

Heh, the more i think about it, nVidia probably going to still be my best bet. At least i know i will be safe with Win2K with them ;)

3dfx i dont' think can keep up with these guys. while they got the driver. the technology is slumping. their solution of just adding more chips isn't too popular anymore. Anyone for an 8 chip voodoo to match the radeon pro?

Davegod75 I thought both ATI and 3DFX had poor performing Win2k drivers compared to nVidia?

NFS4 U would think with the iminent convergence of the Win9x/NT OS's with Whistler these guys would be putting more effort into Win2k drivers :(
Makes me feel that when win9x dies these companys are going to have to play catch up big time in the driver department :(

When they say that Radeon II is twice faster than Radeon, do they mean in real life, or some ATI generated benchmarks? I really doubt ATI could make such a big jump. It's probably only the core that is x2 faster, as for the real world performance, it's going to be a lot slower.

OOOOOOOH!!! Sign me up...

That is, if the G800 isn't out by then or will be in just a few weeks.

YAY! I've been wanting a laptop that isn't crippled in the 3d department (a lil Rogue Spear on the road or something. :p) so this would be outstanding!

Where's my 64Mb All-In-Wonder Radeon card with the higher
clocked DDR SDRAM/Core? I'm not replacing my Rage 128 AIW
32Mb card until you release such a card ATi.

:(

I'm skeptical about the laptop radeon, but you never know, ATi might be the first company to bring a good 3D accelerator to the laptop without problems with power consumption (cough, S3, and nVidia).

oh wait, they already did with the Rage 128 (it was an ok accelerator, but driver support sucked AFAIK).

"Kinda glad nVidia are taking Win2K drivers seriously. The other manufacturers must be loosing a lot of sales over this to nVidia."

no, not really. most people are running windows 9x. in fact, nearly everyone is running that. the only people who they really might lose sales on are the gamers who for some reason or another, run win2k. those people are pretty few and far between.

the only reason we have so many here at Anandtech, is becuase this is an exception to the rule. all the nerds come here to play. guess what? most nerds who can't keep windows 9x stable, and don't like linux, move to Windows 2K.

how will they handle the memory bottleneck?

all good and well to increase the clock speed of the chipset, but useless if you don't have memory bandwitdh. ;(

If you're going to be running in win2k get one of untamo's CL geforce 2's.
