I'm planning on getting an IBM T41 soon, but I'm wondering if it's worth the extra $200 for the 1400x1050 screen, and the Radeon 9000.

The stock model has a R7500 32mb, and a 1024x768 screen.
Does anyone have any benchmarks to see if it's indeed worth the extra money for the better video? I don't need the bigger screen, but this will be the only PC I'll have for a few months, and I want to be able to play _some_ games with it.

there is no "real" difference between teh 7500 and 9000 (possibly memory/core speed), but they are the same archetecture, if you get at t42 with a 9600, then playing games would be quite possible. Also remember lcd's dont scale that well, and the 9000 is not going to be playing much at 1400x1024 so it may actualy adversely effect your gaming experience. However, the extra resolution is nice, more stuff on screen generaly allows more work to be done, so that should also be taken into consderation.

I have a T40 with the SXGA+ Screen and love it.
I like the higher resolution. Its great for DVD's and such
Also I have the R9000 and have no problems with the games I have thrown at it.
I have played UT2K4 with no problems at medium settings @ 1024x768 also Quake 3
Americas Army....

FWIW, I seem to recall from previous T40 threads that the 7500 scores about 3900 points in 3dMark01, while the 9000 scores about 5000 pts.

Interesting. I may be forced to get a T23 instead of a T41, unless people start buying more of my stuff ..:-\

Definately go with the 9000, it's a DX8 card and it does get about 9000 3Dmark's in my Laptop (P4 2.4). The 7500 is a DX7 card that can barely do 3D...

i thought the 9000 was just a rebagged higher core 7500, or is the 9000 for mobiles different then the 9000 for desktops?

What about Radeon M9200?
Is there a big advantage in terms of 3D performance over the M9000?
Got any links to some tests?

TIA

The 1400x1050 screen will be worth it over the 1024x768 screen alone :)

/me  the 15" 1600x1200 screen in my laptop
