I know the LE cost more, but is it a better buy than the V3 3000?
I borrowed a friends V3 3000 and its way better than the Diamond stealth S540 32 meg PCI I just sold. In quake benchmark the Voodoo scored a 70 fps the stealth only 27 fps. Same difference in the 3dmark bench, voodoo scored a 3150, stealth 1340. Will the LE perform better than the V3? Is the LE worth the extra 30 bucks? Please help me make a decision. I've got to give this V3 back tomorrow and all I have until I get me a new one in is a 1 megger, yea a 1 megger. Dont that sound depressing? So give me some advice quick! Thanks

Does your mobo have an AGP slot? I'm pretty sure the LE would swamp the V3 in just about anything.

so you're buying either a V3 3000, or a Radeon LE?

Definitely go for the LE. 1: you're going to see a large performance increase switching over, simply compare the review benchmarks. 2: You'll be playing in 32 bit colour, which is going to look much better. 3: No more drivers from 3dfx + no 32 bit colour = much less product lifetime compared to the Radeon LE, which still plays todays games fairly well, and has excellent 2d. oh and 4: it also comes with FSAA, which you might enjoy

It's definitely worth the extra money. There's a hack you can do to essentially make it a full blown 32MB Radeon that will spank a Voodoo3.

Edit: here's the link to the AT review about the card and how to hack it.

I agree...reg edit or firmware flash it to the retail 32mb ddr and this should give you near gts scores, and I know personally my v3 card was real lame compared to my le...

For a small price the Radeon LE is a very kickass card, and definitely outperforms the Voodoo III. But, the Voodoo III is still a very good card, still good bang for the buck, and if you're satisfied with the card and the 70fps, I wouldn't bother wasting a cent on a new video card.

I like the V3 better in Unreal Tournament. I like the LE better in everything else. I have owned a V3 2000 @ 179 MHz and an LE-->DDR @ 185 MHz.

Some impressive numbers from that Radeon here. I did this on a Celeron 880 in Windows 2000. :D
