Radeon LE/VE outputting PAL to NTSC: Special settings needed?

I am buying the 32mb RADEON CARD with the S-Video out (forget if it is the LE or VE, but it costs $99 at Circuit City) and am wondering if it can output PAL to NTSC 480i normally, or if there are certain setting changes and software I need in order to do this?
Also: Which region free software should I use? My ASUS 12X player is region free and most of my playback will be PAL Region 2, but I will still need to play some Region 1 DVDs.

For those of you who have followed my posts, I have given up on the Hollywood Plus decoder card. It will not convert PAL to NTSC for me without frame stuttering. :(

I believe there are separate PAL and NTSC versions of the card. I think you can get one or the other, and neither can become the other through software settings. At least that's true regarding the ATI Rage Fury and Rage Fury Pro, so I'm guessing the Radeon would be similar. Of course I'm just guessing so I might be wrong.

this is not a radeon issue.
this is a general tv-out issue.

the us vga card tv-out is ntsc,
the us tv is ntsc,
if you play a pal movie - no matter what media,
you will get b&w jumping screen for sure.

if you really need to play pal dvd/vcd on ntsc only tv,
buy a imported dvd/vcd player or sounds to be us brand but rebadged china brand dvd/vcd player - they have pal<->ntsc converter built-in, you can select the output format as auto/ntsc/pal.

Here we go again. THOSE DVD PLAYERS SUCK! Period. I have tried them all and they suck to high heaven. Quality is bad, artifacts aregaloreand theconversion leave the aspect ratio completely screwed up.

Now, I know that numerous people have used the Radeon based cards to play PAL DVDs on their NTSC TV's, so I am trying to get THOSE PEOPLE to respond to my post. But the last few days, they seem to be absent from all the forums.

Very frustrating.

They ALL do the same conversion. Anamorphic DVDs have too many scan lines removed, while non-anamorphic have too few. That means you get a picture that is either tall and stretched (you get tall skinny people) or a picture that is short and squished (short, fat people). It's impossible to watch without always noticing the distortion. :|

Well, I'm not sure about ATI, but I use DVD Genie on my ASUS v7700 Deluxe and voila, I watch my PAL DVDs witout any problem... I don't think the ATI allows you to hack the regional codes... that's one of the things that keep me away from these cards.

I downloaded DVD genie for region stuff. My ASUS 12X is region free (all you have to do is remove the test jumper).
