just got the card installed and running..

now i need to determine whether this card has been flashed to the regular 32mb ddr version already.

in system manager it says "Radeon DDR"

In the meantime, I'll be downloading the latest drivers.

Running at 166 - flashed already. 148-149mhz, not flashed. Pretty simple actually.

Get a tweaker and you can easily tell.

I use Raid-On.. Best results so far. Do NOT mess with memory timings however.

FYI...flashing is more than overclocking and usig the registry hacks. If you flashthe bios, then the card will forever think and act like a 32MB Radeon DDR. Here is a guide if you are interested (LINK)

oops...too late...lol

messed with em..set em back to Normal

Card is running great now.

Isn't there some way to flash these so I wouldn't have to do the registry hack anytime I want to reinstall windows?

In theory the flash SHOULD make it just like a DDR, no registry hacks required, but that doesn't seem to be the case.

So essentially, flashing the bios isn't worth the risk.

HOWEVER, I do use Linux at times, so flashing is the only way I know of to get the card to run at 166 in that OS.

Sorry to hear about the memory timings. It's ok once you reboot, unless you set it to do it on reboot everytime :)

And a question.. you say so you don't have to do the reghacks everytime you install windows. I don't know if you know it or not, but Raid-On does all the registry entries for you

caino you dont understand the diference. You are hacking the registry, not flashing the cards bios. Flashing is somewhat dangerous and involves changing the bios on the video card. You are just modifying some registry setings to force the driver to run certain feature/clock speed.

I'd say if you never use anything but Windows, don't bother flashing the bios..

BUt like I said with Linux it's pretty much a needed thing.
