Radeon LE, 8-bit paletted textures, and Final Fantasy VIII?

I just got a Radeon LE and enabled hyperZ, with no overclocking. Final Fantasy VIII looks like crap now with the radeon in D3D mode, and under the config it shows 8-bit paletted textures aren't supported. Is there any solution to this? Is this going to affect many older games which use 8-bit paletted textures?

If I recall correctly about the only cards that ever bothered to use 8 bit paletted textures were the Voodoos. They are hardly every used on PCs. the 8bit paletted textures I think are just because it's brought over from console.

I've heard about the 8bit textures thing before....I think you are pretty much SOL, but it shouldn't affect much

FF7 and FF8 are the only games I know of that use them.

Have you tried patching FF8 with the GeForce patch? That fixed FF8 with my Radeon 32DDR. Now it looks just as good if not better than my V3-2000 did. You can get the patch HERE

Yea, it looks much better now. Setting 'DisableHierarchicalZ:' to 1 to disable HierachicalZ stopped most of the visual artifacts in the world maps. However, the menu screens still look like crap w/o 8bit palettes.
