Radeon HD7850 owner's thread

Bought a cheap MSI R7850-1GD5/OC and replaced the cooler with a Arctic Cooling Accelero S1 +turbo module.
Fans are Noiseblocker eLoop types. Dead quiet and the 7850 does not get over 50C full load.

With rubber standoffs, don't know how you call them. Its in the Plus kit for this Arctic cooler. The Arctic fan you get with this kit is not very nice.

I use the 1300rpm 1. It is an awsome type of fan. I use the 4 pin 1 for the CPU.

Be Quiet L7-430W. A bit on the high power side. 350W should be enough. Thats what my FX8350 is running on.

Didn't know Be Quiet is such good quality, did you experience any instability with that crazy overclock? isn't 430W on a low side?

I even think a 300W will be enough. I have no instability at all. Even if I use to test the i7 with Linx on 4.6G +Furmark there is no problem. At 4.4g the highest core temp is 81c with Linx running.

I mostly use the BeQuiet 300W without problems in any sytem. I just had none left other than the 430W. The good thing about the 300W is the powerdraw at very low load. I have the Antec 430W laying about also. Fine PSU only a bit noisy to my taste. This setup is ultra quiet even under full load. You can game without noise.

Also, regarding the Accelero, is it the Accelero S1 Plus? Did you have any trouble installing it? Did you have enough RAM heat sinks?
I'm looking at a similar/same setup, so I want to know everything.

I'm looking at a similar/same setup, so I want to know everything.

I have to test it again to see if I can find any whining. With a closed housing I did not notice it. Your youtube film realy shows whining. I will test it more thoroughly. The Accelero is the S1 Plus+fan cooling. Its a bit overkill for the 7850....even at 1200mhz. I did not use heat sinks because it does not really get hot enough. Tested it with a temp. laser tester .When the fan blows it blows air over all the chips.

could you tell me the exact distance from the metal PCI plate on the 7850 (where the DVI and other connectors are) to the end of the Accelero heatsink? (with and without the black plastic thing, because it looks like the plastic can be removed if not using the "turbo module") I just want to make sure it would fit inside my case.

30mm. The plastic cover is about 3mm at the end. In the front it is about 15mm. You could still use the turbo module without the plastic cover.

Here's my entry:

Gigabyte Windforce HD7850 2GB OC

^ In retrospect I probably should've gone for a reference card as the Gigabyte one seems not to have voltage control. Anywho that's a Panaflo 120mm fan with a homemade shroud blowing on the card, and a Swiftech MCW60 I originally bought in 2008 for my HD4870. Overclocked it doesn't exceed 46c running Furmark.

I bought a Sapphire 2GB 7850 a week ago, replaced a 4670 in my extremely budget-friendly rig.

Overclocked it from 860/1200 to 1050/1350 without a sweat. Doesn't really show in anything but benchmarks so I'm keeping it stock ATM.

Absolutely love this card, it's very very fast and quieter than I expected too.

Hmmm. A FS/T thread in that forum made me consider getting a new video card. I'm currently using a Radeon HD4870 and I'd like to spend $200 or less on a new one. I plan on staying with AMD cards just cause they've worked fine for me for at least a decade.

I see I can get a 2 GB 7850 for $190 at NewEgg. Should I get the 2 GB model or 1 GB? My system is Core i5 750, 4 GB RAM and a few of the games I play are BF3, War Thunder, Company of Heroes 2 and Crysis 3 when they launch, Skyrim, etc. Probably most demanding is BF3 (or Crysis when it comes out). I probably will throw in another 4 GB of RAM soon (will that help too?).

Any suggestions?

In one of our office PCs I have a XFX 7850 1GB with a AMD Phenom II 955 and a Corsair 430 watt PSU... running 2560x1440 resolutions and no issues so far. I just can't run games like DOTA 2 with max setting at that resolution for smooth game play. :biggrin:

However I recommend getting a 2GB version if you are planning to run a monitor with higher resolutions than 1920x1200 or a multi-monitor set up.

My 7850 (2GB Windforce OC) seems to cap out at around 1150/1550 at 1.225v and 1125/1550 at 1.210v (stock). I plan to leave it at stock voltage and run 1100/1500 24/7 to be on the safe side.
