Okay so I did some overclocking, I have the twin frozr 3 with 2x 6pin power. I got to around 1170 core but I can barely go up on the memory, can only get 1300-1325 stable. For voltage I am not really sure how much it's running at because GPU-Z and hwinfo show different. HW shows it at 1.090, while GPU-Z was showing 0.9...I can change it in Sapphire Trixx to 1.153 and get it stable and if I go lower it crashes, if I go higher its stable to a point but hard to tell how much it is using. I would assume the numbers I pick is accurate but not 100% sure.

Any suggestions on overclocking the memory or it's not worth it? I ran 3dmark 11 free version, and my score is about 9000-9200. Temps in stress testing get to around 77-80 on the core, vrm's is about the same or slightly higher. I might swap the cooler on my video card to the Arctic hybrid.

What are your VRM temps in gpu-z? that could be holding you back on your memory overclocks.

Thoughts:

The recent purchase of the (2) HD 7950 sapphires at $425 was hard to pass up and a deal of a life time (compared the the $349 on 850pe agp long time ago lol!). So without any hesitation I made the purchase and installed it in my system, and they worked wonderfully with the 650W corsair psu in my pc. It ran without any hiccups, and installation was pretty easy despite it being larger than the HD 6850s I had before (They served me well!). And right off the bat...the performance is twice as fast than before, and to me it's pretty mind boggling. My CPU right now does no justice, but it's decent enough to play the games today, especially the eye candy. So here are my results !

Hi,

Ive got 2 Powercolor 7950s running in Crossfire mode.
The primary card is a V2 card while the secondary is a V1 card.
The primary card is brand new and, under load, runs at about 92C.
The secondary card runs at about 70C.

Does anyone else have this problem ??

The V2 primary card is brand new. Is this normal operation for a 7950 ??

Thanks

when i ran CF 6870s i had the same issues, top card ran much hotter, didnt matter which one was there, I had 1 visiontek refrence design and a XFX dual fan one, both ran in the high 80s/90s when on top

have a 7950 sapphire OC one, running stock currently

Congratulations! If you Oc'd those to 1200/1800 you'd have a 20k graphics score roughly on 3DM11.... but you'd need some serious cooling haha.

I think you should have purchased one 7950 and used the money you spent on the 2nd one to upgrade to a 3570K and a Z77 mobo. That Phenom II is a serious botteneck for two 7950's. Even my Phenom II @ 4.0Ghz is bottle-necking my single 7950. But if your happy with what you have now, well that's all that matters.

I can only get my 7970 GHz vapor x to 1170/1580 but I don't use it overclocked in games anyway.

Thats sweet, i hit 1308 on my 7950 with a 1200 core clock and 1800 memory clock... kinda cool to show a 670 up against the 7950. I feel the 670 is the 7950's competition when it comes to overclocking.

I'm building a system with a couple of the TFIIIs in xfire. I am unable to use the workaround to get MSI Afterburner to overclock.

I downgraded from 2.2.4 to 2.2.3 and was temporarily able to use the cfg edit to adjust my speeds. However, once the system crashed I have since been unable to change the speeds again. I've tried enabling and disabling overdrive in CCC, as well as deleting the CCC but I still am stuck.

Anyone have similar problems?

I'm pretty happy with the setup i have right now, i understand the phenom is old and the newer intel CPUs can power these guys to its full glory. It's playing the games I'm throwing at and it's chugging along just fine

Did you try the Asus GPUtweak + MSI Afterburner work around? Read the first post in the thread.

Do any of you have any idea how well off the his iceq 7950 is versus the other models?

I know its price is a little higher but it seemed to have gotten a few good reviews and it does a better job of exhausting the hot air versus other after market coolers as i am more of a external exhaust cooler type of person and the cooler also cools off the vrms good as well as the main heatsink cooling off the memory chips as well as the core.

Mad vibes are telling me it would be a good choice if i want 1150+ core as one of the reviews i read got up to 1200 core.
