I currently have a Sapphire Vapor-X Radeopn HD 5750 1GB 128-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.1 video card. I'm looking to upgrade to a Sapphire Radeon HD 7850 2GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 video card. Does anyone know how they compare in terms of heat and noise level?

because HD 7850s suck less power they dont really generate as much heat and are a little quiet

The 5750 is most likely on par or even less heat producing than a 7850 for the 5750 is a very low power card in performance and power consumption there is even some models of the 5750 that come without a 6pin.

7850 when overclocked is going to destroy a 5750. They also run very cool
I don't think OP was looking for another Mantra about the 7850 god know there's enough of that rhetoric going on around these forum rather OP was wondering how the 7850 noise and heat output levels compare to his previous card which was a Radeon 5750.

I had a XFX reference 5750.

It was noisy as fuck - heat wise not sure, not relaly paying that much attention to it.
That little whiny fan was horrible - like a mixer kitchen appliance.

I know have a Sappihre 7850 @ 1225.

Almost inaudible, max 60C with a custom fan profile that goes up to 60%.

5750?

90c - 80-90% fan on auto.

I will say one thing tho - the hd 7850 ASUS DirectCU II i had - had worse temps but was a bit quieter on the fans.

5750 consumes less but is a much slower card. Upgrade!!!

I went from a 5770 to a 7850. The 7850 was ASUS version.

When 7850 was stock it was basically inaudible and power consumption (and therefore heat output) was only about about 10 watts on average more than the 5770 was.

A 5750 uses less than a 5770 and my 5770 was overclocked, so you're looking at more like 20-30 watts more heat from the 7850.

Temperature is irrelevant to heat output, but most of the decent coolers (sapphire, gigabyte and ASUS) do quite well at keeping temperatures low at reasonable volumes. My ASUS is basically inaudible at very acceptable temperatures, the sapphire has a similar reputation for being decent in that regard.

That's helpful. Thanks!!

How much difference does another 20 to 30 watts more heat make in terms of heat output out of the case and into the room?

Not a huge amount, probably, but it depends on what you're starting with. If your system is already consuming 300 watts, it's a difference of less than 10%. If your system is consuming 50 watts, it's a much bigger difference. But it's probably closer to the higher figure when the GPU is going all out.
