So 580 GTX is all Nvidia can do for a next gen? That is a pretty pathetic increase from "last gen" (20% from 480). Pretty sure AMD will have a much bigger leap from their last gen (even though the 5970 still beats the 580).

Bet you my build is sexier? Very close to the same as mine.

I was trying to say Nvidia's next generation is here, AMD is late to the party. A month late,so far.

And all I meant was that we can't determine the winner of that generation until we get sales figures for both series'.

It's more like a refresh, like the GTX 285, 275, and 260-216. Nvidia just named it like a new generation. Which isn't surprising. They basically skipped the 300 series (re-badged OEM cards), and I think they just ran out of numbers for the 400 series - they have three, three, separate cards all called the GTX 460.

or you could look at it this way...

Nvidia's last year chip is competing with 2 generations of AMD chips. The 58xx series and the 69xx series. Like I said ,AMD is lucky the gtx480 was not the 580.

Are you guys SERIOUSLY arguing about a FAKE slide?

fakeenhanced.png

Look at what Fud writes and whats in the slide. He said this is AMD's own internal #'s... oops, look like he took a fake slide and ran with the numbers.

FYI it's the 6870 slide with the exact same numbers with parts of it lopped off - a sloppy fake.

If this isn't enough proof that Fud has no insider info and is half the time making @%# up I don't know what it'll take to convince people

The people who remember Fraud, er Fuad, from the days of TheINQ when Groo was there will not be surprised by this revelation.

Or you could look at it any way that makes you feel giddy, even if you have to fool yourself with false information*.

*The 400 and 500 cards released this year, not last year.

and the gtx580 was released last month not this month(if the 6900 series even releases). Whats the difference what month they release?

Like I said AMD should thank the TSMC gods that the real gtx was not released. No matter which way you look at it AMD is behind.

Some of these posts in this thread is really amusing. I just may hang on to a few posts in this thread for later use once the 69 series is launched. :)

And to begin with, I am surprised it isn't even locked yet, with the way its going.

Happy, I merely extended your thinking of how 580 is a new generation. Also how convenient you forget the 5970.

Its easy to forget the 5970, ever see its minimum fps performance?
It will be non existant in a month and so will its driver updates.

Oh I remember those days. While Fuad is not nearly as bad as Charlie, you still need a lot of salt with these articles.

*funny side note, I once had an employee of the "Inq" challenge me to a fight. In the end the little guy backed down, but those were good days. I should try and find those emails.

Nvidia is late to the party. We already have the 68xx from AMD, but no 550/560 from Nvidia.

:hmm:

Both AMD and Nvidia struggled with TSMC's 40nm process. But Nvidia's problems with Fermi were largely it's own. Don't believe anything S|A said about the yield issues -- it's complete FUD. Both companies had plenty of time learn the process via HD4770 and GT21x.

I wish someone would do a rough estimate of how much ad revenue is generated every time one of these tech rumour sites puts up a bogus article.

I can name at least 3 that do not care about credibility at all, because they know us sheep will still keep clicking before the next launch.

But I digress...

It was the fastest chip then and is even faster now. Whats your point?

-Actually AMD's 7970 is the fastest chip around right now, definitely faster than a 580. You'll prolly say something like "yeah where is it, can I buy it" but everyone knows it's so advanced that even tsmc can't properly fab it right now. Time will vindicate me.

From a person allegedly in possesion of cayman:
  • Cayman die will be much smaller than generally expected, we are talking Cyprus like size
  • Performance several percent below gtx580
  • Power use quite high for such a small die
  • Major problems with drivers, especially for AA modes
It seems that AMD continues their small die strategy, hopefully the driver problems will be resolved

LOL @ people saying the card will be a failure if it's 20% faster than the GTX 480. If you spend a little time thinking about what you are saying you would notice that puts it right in GTX 580 territory...

IMO it's going to come in at 10% faster than the GTX 480 and the HD 6950 will be 5-10% slower than the GTX 480.
Also article has zero credibility.

AMd changed the 58xx series because they noticed the 40nm would give problems... So if they wouldn't have problems, nvidia might have released the 580 but AMd would also have released a faster chip....

What people also don't realize, 69xx is new shader structure, so software drivers will allows for more performance. GTX580/570 is not and drivers will only hold a possible small performance increase.

Does he even read what he writes?

"When we compare our own GTX 480 results and add 20 percent on top of that it turns that Cayman XT loses to both GTX 570 and especially GTX 580."

What? 570 = 480, if you add 20% to the 480 score, how can you lose to the 570? WTF?

Booo fudzilla
Good point

Here, let me have a go at this fake numbers game...
When I compare my own GTX 480 results and add the 20% that AMD themselves state, the 6970 loses out to my GeForce GT6600.
