Im looking for performance on a relatively lower end PSU( about 430-450 watts) and im not looking to do much high resolution (thankyou error8 for the comment on that) so the 4670 doesnt look like so bad of a choice for me, although now im intrigued as to the performance between the asus ultimate 8800gt and the hd4850....
430-450 watts is not low end and will easily support a much faster card like the 9600gt or 8800gt.

Unless of course it's a cheap 450 watt PSU... then it's about as good as a decent 250 watt PSU.

As a followup note, the ASUS 9800GT Ultimate is nothing but an overclocked + rebadged G92 8800GTS which makes it basically equivalent to a 9800GTX without the extra power plug requirement. So it will run a bit slower than the 4850 in most games.

All-in-all not a bad price for that card, 9800GTX performance at lower power consumption and a good price is a nice offering.

EDIT: The 9800GT Ultimate would skunk the 4670 in games.

The 9800gt ultimate also has 128sp's like a 9800gtx. (the normal 9800gt has 112sp)
Most overclock past 9800gtx+ levels also.

For 125$ after rebate it's a steal and does outperform a 4850.
that card does not outperform the 4850 in 99% cases. the 4850 is faster than a 9800gtx+ and this ASUS card is slightly slower than a 9800gtx+ so do the math.

I, for one have been screwed out of a EVGA rebate on a 8600GT. I still have copies of all of my paperwork and upc's. I've now sent them a total of 3 copies and the one original i sent first. No response.

Out of pocket expense is very important to me. EVGA ripped me off.

There have been a lot of bank failures recently.

If it was that certain that everyone would actually get thier rebate, they wouldn't mess around with rebates, they'd just lower the price of their product by the same amount.

I don't mess with rebates anymore. All that matter to me is the out the door price. Not some future promise that they may send you a check months later if you hassle them enough, as long as all the i's are dotted and all the T's are crossed, if you're lucky.

EVGA has been very good about their rebates. I got my check within 5 weeks. No other rebate check come this fast. You probably didn't follow directions and then missed the dead line.

4850 is actually on par with 9800gtx variety. However 4850 is much faster with 8xAA.

That Asus card is actually slightly faster than a 9800gtx since it's clocked higher than 9800gtx.

What kind of net are you talking about? A fishing net or a hair net?

Haven't seen that story except for in your post.

I think the 4670 looks like a good card. It just came out so there aren't any good deals on it yet (looks like its only selling for retail currently). When you compare performance at retail price, it is probably superior to any Nvidia offering. There are currently deals on the 9600gso and 9600GT so those could be better deals for those comfortable with rebates (I have never been denied a rebate). This is coming from one who just bought a 9600GT SSC (w rebate)

I'm leaning towards the 9600GT as a final upgrade for my 4800+ X2 system. Price/performance looks excellent.

I really want to buy a 4670 for a number of reasons but there's no way I'd buy one now. There is very limited selection, no shipping or rebate deals yet and the $99 HIS card with 1GB is not really worth it, imho. I keep going to newegg hoping for a sudden increase of inventory and a better selection but I ain't seen nothing yet.

I think when you can get one for $59 after rebate with free shipping and a quiet cooler this will be a very compelling card for me and a lot of other people.

The more I think about it, this is _the_ card to pop into an OEM system for an instant boost in performance for games. If anyone does computer consulting on the residential side (not me, thankfully :)) this would be a very great card to pop into an HP, Compaq or Gateway or something when the customer wants to buy games and play them. It really brings decent gaming to millions of OEM boxes with pretty simple PSUs. I think this is a brilliant offering from AMD if you think about it in that respect.

I think people keep forgetting the HTPC application. Here you have a card with low power consumption, a quiet cooler (could easily do passive it looks like) and good gaming performance at 720p. At retail price it's not bad, drop $10-20 off of that and you can get the card and a BD/HD drive for less than $200 together. I'm heavily leaning towards the 4670 just for the HD decoding though I won't be buying it until Christmas so I have time to watch prices. If the 9600GT did a little better with HD and was a little quieter/cooler running I would have a much harder decision on my hands.

Either way whatever I get will be a great upgrade over my 7800GT thats currently in my HTPC, in both gaming and HD.

9600gt cooler is probably quieter than 4670 small whiny fan. 4670 still has the better HTPC support because it can output audio through DVI.
