Radeon Dual Head w/TV out - 86.00 shipped from newegg

Not too hot, considering the retail version of this card is only $99 at best buy, and I think everywhere else... and this is OEM... but hey, it's still $13 cheaper and I think you get free shipping....

You're right of course. I was thinking of it compared to others such as the G400 dual head. In this respect, it's hot even at full retail.

If you are using the pc for DVD and HDTV, it's nice. You can switch from the TV, projector, or pc monitor without a switchbox or distribution amp. I guess it is a poor choice for gaming.

Actually, I've heard the Radeon is pretty good for gaming.
Frame rate wise it's not as high as the geforce2 but the quality of color is better.
Also, text is supposedly sharper compared to that of the geforce.

There is also the possibility of overclocking the Radeon.

mmniver: The Radeon Dual Head has no Texture and Lighting Engine and lacks other features. It's slower than an Geforce MX and there are no overclocking utilities for the VE dual head version so far.

Radeon's Win2k drivers are horrible. If anyone has Win2k and is thinking about getting a Radeon, they should think again. Matrox's dualhead card is mainly for businesses, which often use Win2k, so their Win2k drivers are solid.

I actually bought this on Monday, and I received it yesterday from newegg. This package isn't even retail package, so it has the slower ram. the drivers for win2000 (which i'm running) is garbage. I can't even set different refresh rates for my separate monitors, so one of them is flickering like a biatch. All the reviews I've been reading made me want to get it, but now that i've installed it I still have much to be desired. The review sites

Windows graphics performance is lackluster, and i can't even operate normally without flickering. The twin G200 AGP and PCI card setup I had before killed this radeon ve, and the Matrox G400 dualhead was way better than this POS. Even the Matrox G100 quadhead I had was smoother windows graphics than this. i could play avi files and things like that without flicker, but the radeon cannot, and it's even worse with their bundled media player. I'd rather get a radeon LE along with some like a PCI voodoo or something, that'd be much smoother regarding windows operations.

I have like 4 Matrox G100 quadhead video cards (4 monitor output each) that I can sell to anybody for $40 shipped. they are all PCI and brand new sealed in static bags. I can send pix to anybody.

I advise all NOT to get this card. all of the radeons are excellent cards, EXCEPT FOR THE VE.

There is actually a new review for this card today at tomshardware,

This isn't the place for a long discussion on the quality of the card, however here is a link to the comparison review done by Matthew Witheiler at AnandTech. 🙂
