Is this some sort of a cruel joke or what. I learned that my brand new Radeon only supports DirectShow, nearly all software supports Video for Windows.

In other words the Radeon does not at this time support 3rd party recorders or programs like VirtualDub, Windows Media Encoder, NetMeeting, CuSeeMe, VDOphone, because it doesn't support Video for Windows. If you want to use VirtualDub you can't use it to record directly, you will have to record using the TV and then vDub it. Even the AIW-128 has VfW, all Capture cards have VfW, but not the Radeon's. ATi MUST release VfW support for the Radeon.

========================================
Ok, I went and e-mailed the guy who programmed VirtualDub, and this was his response...

"Unfortunately, ATI seems to have taken the boneheaded path with the Radeon of only releasing WDM drivers for DirectShow. VirtualDub can only use Video for Windows (VfW) capture drivers. This is a particularly stupid move for ATI since most capture programs do not support DirectShow!
========================================

If you go into Multimedia, Devices, Video Capture Device, there is no capture device WTF.
I just got the AIW Radeon, and this is the most absurd thing I have learned about it. They put everything in this card except the support for VfW. Is ATi going to support this in a future release ??? A $395Cdn card and I can't use NetMeeting with it.

Should have bought a GeForce 2 GTS and a seperate TV card -- like a Hauppauge Win TV. Cheaper, faster, and more compatible. No VFW??? That's weird.

Don't know, something is seriously screwed up in your set up. I have a Radeon 64 DDR and after reading you post, tried both Virtual Dub 1.3 and 1.4. It worked like a charm, video capture fully functional. You need to check something somewhere cause it works fine for me.

madmonk, yes the Rage128 did support VfW

Capture and edit still or moving images from VCRs, camcorders and laserdiscs. ALL-IN-WONDER is also videoconferencing ready through a Video for Windows Capture Driver supporting Intel ProShareç, White Plains CuSeeMeç, Microsoft NetMeetingç 2.0, or VDOnet VDOPhoneç (available separately).
===

The only thing I could fine is that the Radeon is "WDM DirectShow® compliant" I can't find anything for VfW compliant.

Madmonk what is the name of the video capture device, when you go into multimedia properties?

I am using Windows 2000 and there is no Multimedia Icon in Control Panel. The Video Capture device displayed under Device Manager is Legacy Video Capture supported by the ATI WDM.

Is it possible that you installed (replaced) your Radeon over a Rage128 or AIW128 without doing a win2k clean install. perhaps the previous capture drivers are still there. thanks for your info though.

Netmeeting should still work. I haven't had any problems with it yet. Does WinME still support VFW? I know that is a dead driver model in Microsoft's eyes.

The problelm is that hardly any software is supporting DirectShow yet. I just finished re-installing the 7068 along with the 4-1 4.27 and nothing. no damm capture device. I wonder if it's a windows install option?

Here are two things you may want to try:
1. Install ATI's MMC, only Video-in part should be enough. Windows Media Encoder and NetMeeting did not work until I install that. It installed another Video Capture device besides WDM, which is not working in my Win Me.
2. Install Web-TV. ATI's driver uses some parts of Web-TV. After install web-TV, the ATI's WDM video capture device will not report error when I tried to config it in Windows Media Encoder. However, the WDM driver is still not working.
