Radeon and Trinitron monitors

So what is the deal?
I am hearing 2 things:

1. Trinitron + Radeon = shimmering effect (in 2D)
2. Trinitron + Radeon = crisp clear 2D

I have a 19in FD Trinitron and a voodoo3 3000. The 2D is very sharp. I am comparing to a Creative Geforce2 GTS that i bought before. The Geroce2 GTS' 2D was just horrible @ 1280x1024@85hz, blurry and fuzzy gave me headaches. Had to return the card and put back that voodoo3 3000. I really want a Radeon because it is fast enough for anything and has awesome DVD playback, the thing is that I must have crisp 2D. What should i do?

I'm glad you started this thread too, because for the life of me I can't quite figure out how a vidcard would have a problem with how a monitor displays. I'm thinking that someone had their Aperture Grill settings out of whack and just blamed the video card. Then other people just couldn't help themselves but believe it. IOW, I don't believe that this problem exists, at least not until someone shows it to me.

BTW, I don't have a Radeon, but I do have a Mitsubishi Diamontron(the same as the report(err rumour) stated)and let me state that this monitor has more setting tweaks than I have ever seen before. I think it would be easy to produce some weird effects if one wasn't careful.

I get no shimmering at all on my trinitron. You had better email ati to see if its true. Why would some get shimmering and some not.

There is indeed a problem with the Radeon and shimmering using newer Trinitron and Diamondtron tubes. As for this being a problem with the monitor, that is highly unlikely because the shimmering only appears on the monitor while using Radeon. Also, ATI is aware of this problem and they have confirmed that there is indead a problem with the Radeon and trinitrons/diamondtrons and they are apparently working on trying to find a solution. However, this shimmering (at least with the Diamondtron tube) is not really apparent unless you get about 6 inches from the screen, or try really really hard to look for it. The 2D quality is still excellent. So I would not let this problem stop you from buying a Radeon, even with the shimmering it looks better than any other video card I have used.

I am using a brand new Dell(Made by Sony I think) 19" Trinitron, along with a Radeon and I have never noticed anything wrong with the display.
