Pertinent Specs :
Radeon 32mb AIW
SB Live Value
Altec Lansing asc33 speakers
4 head hi fi VCR (no S-video)

Problem :

Got everything hooked up but the sound coming from the VCR Tape that is playing is pathetic. No clarity, static noise, etc.

All other sound (DVD, MP3, CD, games, etc are great).

Question :
1. Any suggestions on how to change setting to get clearer sound?
2. is S-video hook up to AIW to VCR so much better than regular Video in/out hook up? Ultimately the question is "should I replace the VCR with another that has S-video hookup?

I would appreciate any help, and thanks.

I myself have never had s-video, but I doubt it's worth it to just go out and buy one with s-video if you already have a decent VCR. Also, how are you getting audio from the VCR to the AIW? I currently have a VCR hooked up to a Rage 128 Pro on my brother's computer, and the sound is perfect (or at least pretty good), through the VCR's audio out and the sound card's line in.

Hrmmm.. the AIW has the purple connector box that has Vid-in, LeftAudio-in, RightAudio-in, and S-Vid-in.
I connected the two audio (L & R) from VCR to the connector box and connector box is lined into the AIW.

AIW has audio out that goes into SB audio in (in order to play DVD sound). Never thought to connect the VCR directly to sound card. I guess I didn't want to face the inevitability of having to re wiring the setup everytime I wanto play DVD or VCR. *sigh*

Oh, well if any solution come to mind, please let me know and if anyone else have suggestions, :)

I haven't gotten a chance to install my AIW Radeon yet, maybe next weekend, but it looks like you can take one of those CD-ROM cables from the AUX input of the LIVE to the on board connection on the AIW and all sound will passinside the computer leaving the external line in on the LIVE for sound from the VCR.

At least that is what I am planning if the sound thru the ATI breakout cable doesn't satisfy me.

Hopefully I can cut my trip short this week and get back Wednesday or Thursday and install my card.

Edgy,
I've got the All-in-Wonder 128 and have my vcr hooked up to the purple dongle and the audio is just fine. Try going to the video settings and choosing SVideo or Composite. Both work for me. I hope this works.

BTW I'm waiting for Hawk to get back to me as to whether he has any of the AIW Radeons left to send me. Sounds like a great deal. (my first deal from a forum like this)

Does anyone have a lead on where to buy a ATI AIW Radeon?

CNET shopper shows Egghead as having a YES in the availability column. BS.
I have seen Egghead pull this type of stunt before.

Thanks!

Got my AIW Radeon from Hawk on Sale/Trade Forum here for $230 (excellent price, the very very good seller) I think he still has AIW available..

Got my VCR sound working good now. Connected my VCR sound out directly to line-in on my sound card and not the "purple dong"

For some reason I have to go into "volume control" on right side of start bar and under microphone "advanced" menu, turn off the "1 microphone boost" option to have clear sound. Don't get it, but it works.

Thanks for ya'll input ;)

Edgy:
Glad to hear you got it working.

How do you like the AIW Radeon otherwise?

I ordered mine thru Hawk as well, hope to see it this week.

My opinion and experience with the AIW Radeon?

Heh. It lets me do everything I wanted to do.

Watch TV on my 19 in KDS FLAT monitor (probably not as great as WEGA TV but I'll take it)
Watch videos from my computer (I rent foreign videos that are not available in DVD)
DVD hardware decoding on this card is just as good as Hollywood +.
Tivo-like feature in timeshifting (got me self 45 gig IBM HD for this and Plextor CD writer to save as permanent digital media)
Plays games like no one else's business.. and I don't care how much more fps nvidia cards get more than radeon, this card can PLAY! And from I hear it's gonna get faster with driver updates and when DX8 standard comes.

I've had some problems with watching videos on my AIW ( After a while, most likely to happen after heavy VCR operation such as rewind, ff, pause, etc, the TV player on ATI MMC software just hangs and there is no response-altough the vcr plays fine on the monitor. Only exit is reset button. )
ANY SUGGESTIONS?

I must say, this is the card I had envisioned with the divergence of add-on graphics cards from old pcs with on board graphic controllers.

Thoroughly pleased, and worth every cent of my $230.00 I paid for this gem.
