Radeon AIW questions

I want a new radeon AIW card, and i've been considering the 8500dv for a while for price and features (3d gaming is cool but not on the top of my list). i want to know what people think about the possible release of an AIW part for the 9000 or 9700, as in possible relsease dates, effects on the price of the 8500 and 8500dv, etc. any speculation would be appreciated.

I'll give you my own guesstimate

there will probably be a 9000dv or 9500dv by september-october and an AIW-9700 by december and of course it's going to have a price effect on the 8500dv and the AIW-7500 but the price for an AIW-9700 will be heavy because it will carry hardware mpeg encoding.

Just MHO.

that's all i was looking for. thanks. i guess i'll go ahead and get the 8500dv now then. there's a certain point at which waiting and waiting for the next best thing gets old. also, anybody know if the 8500dv is overclockable at all? maye, say, to put it on par with the aiw 8500? thanks.

i would think that do to all the extra hardware on the AIW that overclocking it much would cause some stability problems.

you're probably right, but wouldn't any overclocking just affect the gpu and the memory, not the tv tuner etc? someone more informed, please correct me...

I have the 8500dv, it is clocked at 230/190. No, it is not very overclockable. I managed 250/210 out of it, but sadly it is equiped with slow ram and that's about as far as it would go. I set the speeds back to default because there was no noticable difference in games, got a slightly higher 3d mark score, but who cares? I play Quake3 almost exlusively, and it's plenty fast for that. The TV features are great, and the new drivers are awesome.

No chance, but why bother..even my AIW7500 plays virtually every game smoothly at high resoltions and the 8500dv will clean the floor with the AIW7500.

yeah, it is the features that are most important to me anyway, i love my old radeon aiw 32mb SDR card. i happened to find the 8500dv for $175 shipped... i took it and ran... thanks for your help

can you tell me your settings, I have the aiw 8500 128mb, and it sucks in cs, drops to 10-20 fps when combat starts

I dont have the card yet, I will post settings once i get it up and running... but as for your situation, you got something majorly wrong there... i'm no 3d expert, but that card should do like 10x that much in CS...
