I'm thinking about upgrading to this video card and have some questions. I know that it has a TV tuner and a feature that's like Tivo. What format does it record in and how large is a file that's around 22 minutes in length? I know that it's not as good at games as the regular 8500 is, but would it not be worth upgrading from a Radeon 64MB DDR? Thanks

You can record video in a number of different formats. AVI, MPEG, and MPEG2. Their final file size depends on your settings. You can adjust the bitrate, resolution, and sound quality, all of which ultimately determine the file size. So the answer isn't cut and dry.

But if you were to use typical "default" settings for MPEG1 or MPEG2 videos in ATI's software, you'd probably be looking at maybe 300 megabytes or so for 22 minutes... based on recording I've done.

How is the gaming performance from this card? Would I be taking a huge step back from the regular 8500?

It is definitely under-clocked. It's clocked at 230/190 while the regular 8500 runs at 275/275. Check out Tom's review here. It has benchmarks that includes both flavors of 8500.

The AIW Radeon8500DV is clocked at 230/190 compared to the 250/250 of the OEM R8500 and 275/275 of the Retail R8500 so it's definitely a step back performance wise from the regular R8500. That said, it's not a poor perfromer by any means as most benchmarks still put it roughly on-par with the GF3 Ti200, and it's a respectable overclocker as well.
Certainly quite a bit faster then your Radeon 64MB DDR VIVO board.

If you'll take advantage of the features then the AIW 8500DV is certainly a hell of a board.
