I just got my new Radeon 9800Pro, I installed it and installed the artic cooler rev 3 on it as well, I boot up and everything is running fine. Until i go to run any 3d application... when i do i get horrible square artifacts all over the screen. Any help or reason why this could have happened?

Any mods/overclocks? Also what are the temps - you might've done a bad install of the cooling solution.

There are few utilities that can do it (Riva Tuner I think can do it).

Also do you have the latest BIOS & chipset drivers for your system?

Maybe he damaged the core or something when he put the different cooler on? Although if that were the case, why wouldn't 2d be affected as well as 3d?

Uh oh.

Check your installation of the Artic, but you voided your warranty installing it.

Hope your card isn't toast, or you're out $200 or become a thief.

i had the same issue this past week when I got my 9800. i used stock cooling, but the heatsink / fan had come loose and the thermal grease wasnt so great. I redid everything and that fixed SOME of the problem.

what i might suggest to you, which is what lead me to finally fixing my problem is try installing older drivers, such as the catalyst 4.8s (available on ati's website) and also try the omega drivers (google it).
you may just be having a driver issue. I installed the catalyst 4.8s and that improved my problem some.

if your previous video card was NOT an ATI card, you also may want to use a driver cleanen while in safemode to remove your old drivers, then put the ATI drivers back on.

I ended up formatting (very tedious) but I am glad I did, everything works great now.

good luck

thx that may be the case, i have had a geforce 4 ti4600 up till now. Maybe i need to reinstall windows. I just got my raptor so i have been thinking about it, guess its time.

Edit: I dont know if this will help but. The artifacts look like checkerd squares across the screen. .

& when i run 3d mark no visible artifacts are shown, and when i run ati tester no artifacts found.

So 3dmark runs fine? In that case, and sesne u just got a raptor, reinstall windows and initially install either the 4.7's or the 4.10's. I have a 9800p also and have found both to be rock solid drivers.

What drivers are you using, specifically?
This may be a long shot, but you wouldn't have happened to buy a 9800SE and softmodded it, would you?
When you said you were seeing a checkerboard effect, the first thing I thought was faulty pipelines -> softmod.

Make sure the fan was spinning on the cooler. Mine did this when the fan wasn't working!
