Is it possible to soft mod my 128bit radeon 9800 (sapphire atlantis 9800 128bit) to get 256 bit memory ?

Or, is this actualy physicaly on the card that it's just 128 bits for the memory ?

Any input would be appreciated... thanks ! :)

There's no mod that brings back your burned money, meaning you can't run this card as a 256bit at all, Sapphire said that they can replace the 128bit pros for customers who thought they were getting the 256bit version, are you one of these? If yes, then you should go demand your rights!

He already has all 8 pipes. It's a 128bit 9800 card. Memory bus width is a physical attribute of a card, so no, there is no mod option for you. Softmodding only unlocks pixel pipelines for cards that physically have them but have some disabled.

Woah woah woah, Miss Lippy, how do you unlock new pipelines? I just picked up that Radeon 9800 Pro w/ 256-bit memory.

Yeah, as was previously mentionned, I do have all 8 pipelines already, but, only half the memory bandwidth... Is the whole asking sapphire for an exchange for a 256 bit card true? Or is that just a joke ?

Either way, I guess I'm gonna find out soon enough as I e-mailed them about it yesterday. Hopefully, I won't come off as some kind of idiot.... hehe ;)

Well, thanks anyways for the replies...

Yep. there IS an exchange/upgrade program where you pay a reasonable difference . . . if you do a search (a couple of months back) you should find it.

edit: Sapphire apologises for 128 bit 9800 PRO cards
Dated June

FORGIVE US USERS we had some sins and we did try to sell you 128 bit cards that you assumed were normal 256 bit Radeon 9800PROs, said Sapphire.
We admire Sapphire's commitment and bravery to stand up and tell the truth after some people bought cards because they thought they were getting the superior 256-bit Atlantis 9800PRO at a knock down price.

Now these cards will have a prominent 128 bit sticker on the box to help people tell the difference.

If you bought this card - at least in Germany - you can pay ?25 more and get the real 9800 PRO with a 256 bit interface which is a fair deal.

The 128 bit card will be called the Sapphire 9800 Atlantis and PRO will be reserved only for 256 versions, to avoid future customer confusion.

You can find a German PDF here and an English here, to see in full what Sapphire says. [/q[
