The Radeon 9800 Pro To Radeon 9800XT Mod Guide Rev. 3.0!

A simple flash will turn this card into a 9800XT

Of course it may not O/C as high as the XT - YMMV as the XT has a better HS . . . ;)

I ordered - great deal!

EDIT: Oh yeah . . . credit where it's due . . . this was RIPPED from Video :p

:roll

UPDATE: NewEgg jacked the prices UP to $265 . . . must have sold "too many". :p

:(

FINAL UPDATE . . . NewEgg musta sold too many, it's up $3 more to $268 . . . not too bad for an "XT"

Read my latest post for my "Upgrade" experience

7/8 UPdate! $223 again :)

7/9 EDIT: Damnit - it's UP in price again. :(

This really IS a HOT deal.

Of course it not as "exciting" as an x800 or 6800 . . .

But it IS less than 1/2 price and has (way) MORE than half the performance* . . . ;)

* Especially IF you do not have a 3.0Ghz CPU or higher or run at LESS than 1600x1200 resolution.

I'm off to work late and don't care . . . i saved $300 this morning. :p

THis is an XT with a crappy heatsink; you're guaranteed to exceed XT speeds if you get a decent heatsink.

The ASUS comes with a better heatsink:

linky

it is $269 though...

EDIT: NM ... The ASUS is a refurb

i already caved early this morning. i was going to buy the hercules 9800pro 128mb but this popped up, and couldn't turn down the xt speeds for only a little less, and a retail package by ATI to boot.

If the 6800GT is really $300, that is extremely hot, since its a 16 pipe card, just a lower clock than the 6800Ultra and Extreme...

First of all Beast Buy's (BS) 6800GT is NOT an option for 99.99% of us UNLESS you got IN early and BB decides to honor their prices.

anyway . . .
Damn NewEgg!
They UPed the price to $265 :p

(i should have mine b4 friday) :)

that makes it "warm" . . . i'll edit the title to reflect this. :(

Here are the DETAILS to flashing this one's BIOS to an XT:

because now it's yesterday's technology at a bad price. all they're trying to do is free up some room in the warehouses for the new cards that will be coming in.

sure they can raise the numbers on a price tag, but now folks will be less likely to buy these out. I would have gone with this deal before, and unfortunately now I won't.

FWIW (damn NewEgg is FAST! - just got it today after ordering yesterday morning) . . .

this card IS the "repackaged" 9800XT with the 2.5ns Hynix memory chips . .. a HOT deal for $223 . . .

only "warm" for $265 (a good deal if your heart is set on a "cheap" 9800-XT)

let us know how the flash goes, what speeds you are able to get with both the stock cooler and whatever 3rd party cooler you choose if you put one on.
