Radeon 9800 PRO Performing Poorly.

Well, I was extremely excited when I first got my "Built by ATI" Radeon 9800 in the mail. I installed it without a problem. As soon as my computer booted up for the first time I immediatly ran 3dMark 2003 (trial version). I scored a 5119. It was a significant increase from the measly 1478 I had with my GeForce 4 4200, but I was dissappointed at the varying peformance in games. In UT 2003 I saw a very slight peformance increase, In Neverwinter Nights my frame-rate was less than what I achieved with my 4200 (I read on some forums that NWN doesn't like ATI cards all that much.). In UT 2003 I usually get anywhere from 20-100 fps with 30 being the average (sometimes even lower with alot of action going on). What's worse is that I don't use any anti-aliasing or anisotropic filtering at all. I've read that with a card like mine I should be getting much much higher. My question is what could be causing this? Could it be something I have configured wrong somewhere? Could my CPU, my mobo, or my memory be bottlenecking the rest of the system?

Install the lastest ATI drivers... what is the rest of your system?

btw... your 3dmark 03 score link is wrong URL..lol

Yeah, I have the latest drivers for my vid card. Ahh...sorry about the link I did something wrong dunno what but I'll worry bout that later. My system specs are as follows. And please do bare with me I'm not too skilled with computers or how they work. I'm sorta new to PC gaming, but I just can't seem to get things running the way they should be.

Radeon 9800 PRO (of course)

(If I'm missing anything important just tell me...)

Do you have your Intel motherboard drivers installed? Here's the "right" order for an Intel-based board:

Is there a proper order for installing the operating system, service packs and drivers on the 8INXP?Here is the routine that Intel strongly suggests for Intel-based motherboards:
  1. Fresh Operating System Installation
  2. Latest Service Pack or Patch
  3. Intel® Chipset Software Installation Utility (INF Utility)
  4. All other device drivers
  5. Intel® Application Accelerator if needed
  6. Microsoft* DirectX* 8.0 or higher

Hmm...I can't find any drivers for my motherboard. I tried Asus's website,I've tried Hewlett-Packard's site, (which is the name brand of my computer btw)I also tried Intel's site. I can't seem to find any drivers for my board specifically.

What model of HP is it? I can do a bit of research and see what they crammed in there. The Intel INF driver pack should work on virtually any i8xx-based motherboard, which is almost certainly what HP used to build your system with.

The other thing is that the R9800 Pro is rather power-hungry. As you can see, it needs a secondary power cable. Your poor lil' HP may not have the juice to power it properly (I'm probably being pessimistic, but hey).
