Radeon 9800 Pro might be best for HL2, but getting other stuff running is no as easy...Is it Catalyst 3.7???

Might be a bad card, check if the fan spins up. You DID plug in the extra power right!

Do a fresh install, you'll be amazed.
Old driver remnants will remain without doing this.
I used drive cleaner and went into the registry with no avail.
I reformatted and installed OS and whoa, what a difference.

I have all them games and they work fine with the 3.7 drivers. Esecially the call of Duty demo

MS Flight Sim 2004, doesn't work

I just finished a training flight in my fresh new copy. Seems to work great with Cat 3.7. I also tested Q3A with the new dll's last night up to 1600 x 1200 6xAA/16xAF for kicks (67 FPS demo four) and UT with the new OpenGL renderer (nice).

Both my AIW 7500/ AIW 9700 rigs are running great so far using Cat 3.7 with MMC 8.6, RW 2.0. My biggest real issue so far has been broken 1080i interlaced for my HTPC.

Right. Complete new format and installation of WinXP/SP1 etc etc completed last night. Took ages with all drivers, applications etc.

Can't believe it. I got everything up and running what seemed to be fine, then "BAM", error 0xc0000005 appeared.....argh.... :frown:

So, this is what I have been able to establish albeit some of them are assumptions.

Motherboard - I believe this is fine as I had no issue before I installed SP1. Bit of an assumption here I know but I really don't know how to test the Mobo...

CPU - Have not tested this but again I believe it to be fine as this problem was also apparent with my P4 2.4(B) sat here gathering dust...

RAM - Changed manufacturer and are using Infieon RDRAM now. Also Ran MemTest over night also with no reports of errors. Don't want to change again as this stuff ain't cheap.

Graphics Card - Changed Cards. Can't be this as they are brand new and different manufacturers.

Sound Card TB SC - Could be this as I have not removed this from the system. I am however running BETA drivers but again I was before!...This is a possibility... :(

SCSI card - I have taken this out of the system and the error still remains. So this isn't the culprit.

So I guess I'll try it with official drivers or should I say Quality Labs Tested and see if this helps.

Anyone any ideas? :frown:

try turning your memory timings down to CAS3 and see if that helps. I ran memtest forever and it told me nothing. Turned down my memory timings, and bam ! all was fine. If CAS 3 works, then try 2.5 (unless thats what it was already at)

Best way if you`re doing reformat is to run Driver Cleaner (before you install the ATi drivers) in safe mode again after you`ve installed OS and updates and run cab/sp1 cleaner(found in tools menu of driver cleaner 2) then run driver cleaner after,it`ll find files believe me then install ATi drivers back at desktop after reboot.

Cleanest way I know,even cleaner then a reformat ;).

Explain that last line, please. There's nothing cleaner than a reformat/reload.

Well Driver Cleaner with the cab cleaner included in tools menu will tidy up the OS after reformat,so it will do a driver cab / SP1 cab scan file cleanup etc ,so by running driver cleaner before install of ATi drivers it be like a super ultra clean version of a reformat and OS install.
I did this lastweek after my ram went faulty, btw once you`ve run driver/SP cab cleaner in safe mode you won`t need to do it again in the future, only need to run driver cleaner on its own then unless there are newer service packs out for 2K/XP.

Taken from the creator of Driver cleaner,

Cab Cleaner should indeed be run once. Driver Cleaner needs to be run everytime you want to install a new driver. Run Driver Cleaner after you uninstalled the drivers. Follow the steps in the readme file.

Thanx for the suggestions guyz...

Power supply?
I have an Enermax Whisper Quiet 365w Power supply so I doubt it's that. Worth some investogation though.

I thought this but it happened with the Detonators I used previously, so it's not the driver.

Worth a go I shall try it.
May wanna to try the Omega Drivers...
I don't think it's driver problem...again possibly an option.

OMG, no don't tell me that... :) Already installed CAT 3.7's but I'm sure it's not them...

Here's a question - I have always installed "Intel's INF installer" which updates the relevent INF files for Intel Chipsets...could this be it...:frown: [edit] How do u uninstall these if possible...

I had similar problems, I owned a P4 2600, 512 pc3200, and GeForce 4 ti4200, running Windows XP home edition. After buying a Powercolor ATi Radeon 9800 Pro 256, and a memory expansion of 512 pc3200 (1024mb total), I tried running 3dmark to check the scores of my new baby, buuuut I couldn't get it to score more than 2000 3dmarks, which is low for a 9800. You can try to use the Detonator R.I.P. ( Download here ) (or Detonator Destroyer if you're running win 9.x ( ) that'll take care of the Nvidia drivers (those are a bitch). Buuuut that didn't really help me either, only remaining option was a complete format of my hard drive and a complete reinstall of Windows XP Professional. All in all, my ATi is running scores of 5400 now, which is above average and the only game I have some probs with is Morrowind, that's all.

When do you get the error exactly?
Is your DirectX updated and working correctly?
Try meddling with teh SMARTGART settings, if your settings are too high there the system might get unstable
Try running teh DirectX Diagnostics supplied with DirectX to see if your Direct3d and DirectDraw are working correctly (==> Run, "dxdiag" enter).
Try installing TweakXP, and tweak your system for ATi cards ( Download here )
good luck mate :)

Seems more like a problem with your resolution settings. Make sure you refresh rate is in sync with your video card and is supported by your monitor. Make sure 32 bit color is selected too.

My 9800np with 3.7 cats run every game fine. Except for a little heat affect bug in C&C Generals: Zero Hour.
